Eight people have been arrested following a march by protesters in central Manchester opposing extremism.
Thousands gathered in the city almost three weeks after suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people and injured more than 110 at an Ariana Grande concert
Bottles and flares were thrown as the UK Against Hate group and counter-demonstrators clashed and police said the protest "turned nasty".
Greater Manchester's mayor said police "deserve better".
The mayor, Andy Burnham, criticised protesters on Twitter, pointing out that the force was currently handling one of its largest-ever investigations, into the terrorist atrocity. UK Against Hate said on its website it organised the march to "stand together in Manchester in opposition to hate".
However, some protesters chanted "Our streets" and "You're not English anymore."
Hundreds of people, describing themselves as anti-racist demonstrators, attended to counter the march, which took place in Piccadilly.

“You’re not English anymore.”
They never were. Servants of the Umma and Dar El Salaam.
After Theresa May said “enough is enough”, the investigation ended and all suspects were released. The investigation is apparently over and there’s nothing to worry about folks, everyone go about your business. As usual.
Looks like “against hate” actually means pro-terrorist.
Let’s hope the rise of based EDL man is at hand for our allies sake.
“Looks like against hate actually means pro-terrorist.”
It does in America.
Excuse me. It does, to “liberals” in America.
Well Mayor Khan says this is all very normal, getting randomly stabbed and blown up and what not. How often does it happen? So often you hardly notice.
Teresa May will be eating her own words supporting muslim London mayor Khan when the next islamic terrorist attack happens there.
Because you know it will.
When the balloon finally goes up, those English are going to go full Anglo-Saxon on the invaders.
It’ll be as ugly as you can imagine. Politicians and “authorities” will be helpless, but they created this problem.
Itll be as ugly as you can imagine. Politicians and authorities will be helpless, but they created this problem.
And when it does, the charge will be led by football (soccer) fans like the “Millwall Hero” from the London knife attacks.
Very plausible scenario and I read that story.
“Bottles and flares were thrown as the UK Against Hate group and counter-demonstrators clashed and police said the protest “turned nasty”.”
“Hundreds of people, describing themselves as anti-racist demonstrators, attended to counter the march...”
I was confused by this, so against standard FReeper protocol, I read the BBC article.
I’m still confused. One of the speakers for UK Agaist Hate was a “former leader of the English Defence League.” Is he now a member of the EDL or has he quit?
It can’t happen soon enough. Time to call out the Fyrd.
