The end stages of socialism in Venezuela are forcing citizens to do anything they can to obtain food for themselves and their families, including risking their lives. Mariana Revilla, a medical doctor reduced to making midnight excursions over 60 miles of open ocean to feed her family, was making her fifth trip to Trinidad when her boat capsized, costing her her life and the lives of two others assisting her. Her boat contained seven tons of flour, sugar, and cooking oil that she had obtained through barter at one of the west coast towns of Trinidad, exchanging them for the tons of fresh shrimp she had brought with her.
Others making the midnight trips would take with them anything of value to exchange for food and basic necessities, making the boats look like a floating garage sale: plastic chairs, house doors, ceramic cooking pots, and even exotic animals such as iguanas and macaws to trade for food.

Venezuela voted for socialism.
They did it more than once.
The hungry Venezuelans should go around asking their fellow citizens,
“Did you vote for socialism?”
If the person answers “Yes”, you eat him.
That’s what you call multitasking.
Can’t the UN send in some MREs or something?
And the socialist wannabees in the exceptional place of freedom, opportunity and plenty called America “resist” and spout anger and hostility to their fellow citizens who express views that differ from their own.
I think a 6 week trip to their paradise is in order.

Actually this is one of those times where preemptive military intervention would be beneficial for both parties. The Venezuelians for obvious reasons, and we don’t have to deal with another Cuba or North Korea for the next sixty years.
Sounds to me like “Doctor” Marianna was what some would call a smuggler.
Maybe once she got to Trinidad she shoulda just stayed there?
Maybe we should start air dropping food for those poor people (and guns and ammo too!).

That's a lot of sugar for her family. She was probably engaging in a bit of smuggling too, no doubt. But that's everyday life in a socialist regime. Her mistake? Not involving the local cops and border guards in her scheme. For a cut of the action, they will allow you to have a bigger boat, or even use theirs. That too is everyday life in a socialist regime.

The Castro regime in Cuba sent A LOT of security advisors to help their fellow travelers in Venezuela. No doubt they have been preparing to quell an uprising. I don’t speak Spanish but am told that the Cuban and Venezuelan accents are almost the same...making the embeds very hard to ferret out.
Real human tragedy.
Glad CNN, NBC, ABC could get us all up in arms over these poor people...
