Didn’t the CSA win at Antietam?

Because he unexpectedly won those states.

Union victory gave Lincoln the ability to issue the emancipation proclamation

0bama will go down in history as exactly what he is: A petty, racist, incompetent, anti-American Affirmative Action case.

This is really good. I hope you like it.

#10: "Antietam is the number one best preserved, even better than Gettysburg IMO."

True. For one thing, Antietam never had the commercial exploitation that Gettysburg suffered. That whole area around there has been pretty much untouched for decades. Beautiful rolling green hills, fields, and woodlands that are truly "off the beaten path".

A few years ago I took my bicycle up there and spent a day doing a self-guided tour of the battlefield. Good memories. Shepherdstown, West Virginia across the river is a nice quiet little town for food and lodging.

God Bless President Trump! And over the weekend the leftist press were doubting that he’d keep his promise. Shame, shame, shame.

I’m looking forward to seeing what other charities he favors over the next 8 years! So nice to see a President making charitable donations instead of bilking the American taxpayers for $$$ as we’ve observed in the recent past and in the 8 years before 2001. The Obamas and the Clintons both came into the WH with little personal wealth and left multimillionaires. How does that work, anyway?

Now on CNN: Trump celebrates death of thousands of Americans.

lol

Hopefully CNN won't figure out what happened to our poor CT regiment that went there--they were wiped out by friendly fire.

Probably CNN would blame Trump for it. :-(

Antietam was a draw.

The sad part was the McClellan had (IIRC) a entire corps that had seen no action and all of Lee’s troops had seen action. A determined attack by the Union could have damaged Lee’s army so badly that it would have been incapable of further offensive operations.

I hesitate to say that the war would have ended with a year because the CSA still fielded armies elsewhere in the South - but the gutting of the Army of Northern Virginia and possible caputre of Richmond by McClellan would have been hard on the remainder of the South.

The extremely sad part is that if Obama had done such a thing, the media would have fallen all over themselves to report on how much he cared about preserving our nation’s heritage.

But Trump does it and all we’ll hear are crickets or the desolate sound of wind blowing thru the prairie grass.

Antietam is still studied as an example of the Principle of War of Unity of Command. That is, McClellan's generalship is a blueprint for getting it wrong.

Providing no overall direction, he permitted his commanders to feed troops into battle piecemeal which permitted Lee to salvage a fight which his troops began badly out of position.
