Man who sold gun used to shoot 2 cops released on $4,500 bond: sources Chicago 07/06/2017

A man who sources say sold an assault rifle to gang members which was then used to shoot two Chicago Police officers last May was released from federal custody on a $4,500 bond on Wednesday.
Charles Williams was arrested and charged in federal court last week with possession of a firearm by a felon. On Wednesday, Magistrate Judge Young B. Kim ordered him released on $4,500, court records show.
A law enforcement source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Williams is believed to be the man who sold a high-caliber assault rifle to members of the La Raza gang. The gun was used in a May shooting that wounded two Chicago Police officers at 43rd and Ashland.

In Williams indictment, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives detailed how he allegedly sold another gun to a criminal informant in a parking garage in west suburban La Grange. Though the source said he is suspected of selling the assault rifle to the La Raza gang, he was never charged in connection to the shooting of the two officers.

Will Smith sells assault rifles?
I’m sure the million mom marchers and the space nut will be all over this judge. Oh wait, they only go after law-abiding gun owners.

The suspected shooter still hasn't been arrested, but police have told the Sun-Times that they believe he's in Mexico, where he has family. The department is working with the US Marshals to try to apprehend him, the report added.
I wonder what a “high caliber” assault weapon is.
The headline is misleading. It is intended to make it sound like this was a legal private face to face sale gone wrong.
But the sale is apparently not what this guy was arrested for. He was arrested because he was a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Of course the truth doesn’t support the “we need more gun control” narrative....
“The department is working with the US Marshals to try to apprehend him, the report added.”
IOW, they are trying to pay to have him kidnapped and brought to the border.
Details in this news report: But the Chicago media of course refers to the trade of firearms for drugs is a ‘transfer’.
“........While the 11-page criminal complaint details a single June transaction involving a 9 mm pistol, it does not mention the May shooting of the two Deering District officers.
Chicago police, however, have previously said that Williams was also suspected of providing the rifle used in that shooting.
“That gun changed hands five separate times over the course of several years,” Anthony Riccio, chief of the Chicago Police Department’s Organized Crime division, told reporters at a news conference last week. “Five different people had that gun. Ultimately it wound up in the hands of a guy named Charlie Williams who lives on the South Side of Chicago. ... He is the one that transferred it to this street gang who used it to then shoot a police officer.”............

” man who sold a high-caliber assault rifle “
That sound scary, HIGH-CALIBER!! Most likely it was a 223.
Did I miss the law this guy broke? If all he did was sell the rifle in a private transaction, what law did he break?
He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
In the photo, the van windshield appears not to be penetrated, and probably was a .223 rather than larger.
About .223 Penetration
“The federal complaint against Williams alleges he sold a 9 mm pistol last month to an undercover informant working for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Agents were watching as Williams pulled his Nissan into a parking garage in west suburban La Grange, popped the trunk and handed the informant a white plastic bag containing the weapon.
“It’s been fired, but it didn’t get fired at nothing,” Williams allegedly told the informant, who was wearing a hidden wire. “I shot it at a (gun) range.”
The informant told agents that he previously traded the same gun to Williams for about $350 worth of cocaine, according to the complaint.
In May, the informant had a similar transaction with Williams, that time trading him a Yugo Tokarev M57 pistol for about $200 worth of drugs, the complaint alleged.
Williams was convicted in 1998 of first-degree murder and sentenced to 30 years in Illinois state prison, according to the complaint. Details of that crime were not immediately available.”
I have noticed the Left Media Cartel has seamlessly moved from assault weapon(semi-automatic) to assault rifle(automatic).
If this gentleman had sold an automatic weapon to La Raza, he would have been arrested for that.
How many read assault rifle and think it was an automatic weapon?
The .223 is a good coyote round, but underpowered for much more than that.
“I wonder what a high caliber assault weapon is.”
Possibly a High Standard 22 pistol with a banana clip? If such a thing were made, it would certainly scare any lefty.
Hey, that's bigger than a .22.
