Donald Trump and Angela Merkel each advocated on behalf of the Enlightenment at the recent G-20 meeting: Trump, the populist, in appealing to the national experiences that form us, and Merkel, the elitist, to the faculty of reason that makes sense of it all.

One would expect her to be a fan of Wagner.
Merkel is trying to destroy Western Culture. Trump is trying to save it and us. There may be no solution except for the right to treat the left in the same way they have treated us. Lined up in front of a ditch. Probably more than 100 million citizens killed by leftist governments in the last 100 years.
That is a very weird article.
Merkel wants Europe to be flooded with military age moslem men that rape women, commit crimes, and cost actual Germans (and other citizens of other countries) countless hundreds of millions of dollars/other currencies.
How is this in any way representative of the faculty of reason?
And Adolf thought the same thing.
It is the inevitable manifestation of ‘political correctness’ taken to it’s logical conclusion. Bending over backwards so far so as to not offend a member of a ‘victim class’, that you end with you head up your own ass.
The misspelling in the title made it difficult to locate.

A LETTER TO GOD
Dear God, please give us back Beethoven and take Justin Bieber.
In twelve years, Justin Bieber will be “Justin Who?” Beethoven, however will be going strong. Just not as strong as Mozart, I imagine.
Actually Merkel wants to destroy Europe.
If some politician came out with the pronouncement that they wanted to destroy Europe, they would be hard pressed to come up with a better method.
Thank you buzzard.
If I may expound on your point: Romanticism pushed back on the rationalism of the Enlightenment. It emphasized the emotions. This is a good tension. We want both reason and emotion. I’d say emotion guided by reason. We should want to fall in love with what the truth and the good.
In our day, we have the libertarians, who seem to over-emphasize reason, versus the conservatives, who see that man needs to be guided by social institutions such as family, church and government. This tension between individual rights and social expectations and obligations is a good thing.
Opposing us are the post-moderns. They reject reason and freedom, and explore perversion and chaos. They are prone to violence and to anarchy and totalitarianism. They also reject universal brotherhood. Their view is that the masses should be ruled over by the elites, which is how they view themselves.
Strange. It was a hot link. Still works.
