Hundreds of German choir boys abused over six decades - report

At least 547 young members of the Regensburger Domspatzen boys choir in Germany were subjected to physical and in some instances sexual abuse over a period of 60 years, a new report says. The report accuses 49 members of the Catholic Church of carrying out the abuse between 1945 and the early 1990s. The alleged perpetrators are unlikely to face criminal charges because of the amount of time that has elapsed. Victims said the experience was like "a prison, hell and a concentration camp". The alleged physical abuse relates to children attending both the Regensburger Domspatzen's pre-school and high school, according to the lawyer tasked with investigating the abuse, Ulrich Weber. Among those singled out for criticism in the report was former choirmaster Georg Ratzinger, elder brother of retired Pope Benedict XVI. Mr Weber said that while Mr Ratzinger, now 93, had no knowledge of sexual abuse, "one can accuse him of looking the other way and failing to intervene".

Yeah, sometimes when you read a headline that this one, you just gotta say “What part of that was unexpected?”

I believe all parts of Christendom have seen this kind of plague. There is a common problem of “A form of religion but lacking its power.” Yes, it can sneak into the Protestant branch too, and I don’t consider it a sign of infallibility just because it might TALK about being bible based. It needs to WALK about being bible based too. An all sufficient witness with a heedless audience doesn’t do any good to the audience....

The Left will claim this homosexual behavior convicts the Church even as they promote homosexual behavior.

This is why homosexuals should never be allowed anywhere near children.

I know... attention span of about a millisecond as they frame their soi-disant arguments.

“subjected to physical and in some instances sexual abuse over a period of 60 years...”

Childhood seems to last forever these days.

Commonly, homosexuals start as children. The sex acts might not start then, but the road of attitudes that lead to them do.

It’s happened in Protestant denominations as well many times.

Any Church worth their salt will heavily vet youth Pastors and Ministers.

The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but of power.

The “vetting” needs to include significant life history. Not, has this man ever sinned (some bible heroes sinned so grievously it’s hard to even grasp it) but has he seen an onrush of victory from the Lord in the face of it.

I have heard ignorance of the law is no excuse, first time I have heard if you have no knowledge of a crime then you can be accused of something

And clearly, nominalism won’t do, no matter what branch of Christendom it’s happening in.

I “think” this means, if he got reports, God wanted him to investigate rather than saying, hey, this is the Church, therefore things are automatically copacetic because we are entitled to view ourselves that way.

Surface Christianity is a problem in all parts of Christendom.

But again. If those he had delegated to investigate were blind, they wouldn’t find a problem.

I think God is endeavoring to teach the small-c church not to take its own status for granted. It’s so easy to go on a pride trip from the wonderful things that often happen in it, then whoooooops! Back to picking oneself off the pavement.

Priests doing what priests naturally do. Anyone who trusts their child with a catholic priest is either an idiot or a fool. This is especially true when it comes to trusting them with little boys.

And, at least as far as I have known, I think I know what I’m talking about. Christian stumbling. Doesn’t mean you’re unsaved. Does mean you’re backsliding and that evils will show themselves and that God will chastise.

The danger is inversely proportional to how spiritually serious they are.

When God so loved the world, He surely didn’t mean with buggery.
