AP Stylebook Instructs Writers Not to Use Words Like 'Pro-Life,' 'Refugee' & 'Terrorist'

The AP Stylebook, published by The Associated Press, is intended to provide universal guidelines for journalists when it comes to stylistic things like punctuation, capitalization and using certain words over others. The 2017 edition of the stylebook directs writers to avoid words like "pro-life," "migrant," "refugee," "Islamist" and "terrorist." Rachel Alexander, an opinion contributor for The Hill, said on "Fox & Friends" this morning that this is an attempt to promote language that liberals tend to favor. Judge Releases Man Accused of Trying to Steal NYPD Cop's Gun She explained that the guide instructs writers to use "anti-abortion" instead of "pro-life," "people struggling to enter Europe" instead of "migrant" or "refugee," and "militant," "lone wolf" or "attacker" instead of "terrorist" or "Islamist." She said if authors do not adhere to that style when they submit an article to a mainstream media outlet, they will likely see their words edited to conform. "The mainstream media claims that it's not biased, but it's got this bias built into its own words," Alexander said. "And we're seeing these words increasingly scrubbed from news articles and replaced by politically correct words instead." She said it's ridiculous to sanitize the English language and censor "conservative words." "It's a bias against conservatives, and it's getting worse every year," Alexander said. The guide advises against using the terms "illegal immigrant" and "undocumented" years after "illegals" and "aliens" were thrown out. Alexander noted in her piece that the stylebook includes an entry on climate change that "includes an extensive discussion with seemingly authoritative evidence of manmade global warming." 1984 doublespeak. I cannot stand how these people are forever changing the common vocabulary. Their goal is to never offend any one. Being Politically correct is more important than actually reporting the facts.

Journalism has done a 180 degree turn in 75 years.

See the common man can get the facts without the assistance of these "reporters".

We don't need people reporting what is coming across the "wire" anymore.

We can investigate and read for ourselves.

Good bye MSM, you are no longer needed.

We wouldn’t do bad to ditch the word “terrorist”, as the definition is entirely subjective.

It’s amazing how sow many people allow themselves to be persuaded by people they would never have a conversation with on the street.

Most of these “NETWORK” people you would never invite into your home.

We allow them to shape our world views without even questioning their credentials or sources.

In other words, the AP style manual is attempting to inform writers of how better to style their lies in order to make them more palatable to a gullible low information voter reader.

So journalists of this ilk might more truthfully be termed "professional liars".

So the pro-choice folks are offended by the term "pro-life"? That's factually who we are, though.

You're really in a bad place when the truth becomes offensive.

Plus, "anti-abortion" wouldn't suffice as it wouldn't cover those who'd allow abortion to save the life of the mother. "Pro-life" would still be more fitting.

Prochoice is actually proabort, no matter what a woman WOULD choose. Margaret Sanger herself said ‘no more babies’.
