Not true. Nobody dared to speak against THE CHURCH. The Church killed people for practicing Christianity that went against the beliefs of the Church.
Before the Enlightenment i.e. late 1700s, yes (so it did drag on beyond the Middle Ages). However this is 200 years later.
Not correct. If a peasant in the 1600s (Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, Calvinist, Unitarian) etc. was shown a piece of “Art” like the “Crucifix in piss”, the “artist” would be dead. So not just “the Church”
