President Trump was sworn into office six months ago. Senate Democrats have had plenty of time to come to terms with the election results. Unfortunately, they are channeling their disappointment through the confirmation process by engaging in an unprecedented level of obstruction of President Trumps well-qualified nominees.
Its nearly August, and my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have only allowed us to confirm 55 of President Trumps 242 nominees or 23 percent. By the August recess of President Barack Obamas first term, the Senate had confirmed 313 of his 454 nominees or 69 percent.
At the current rate, it will take more than 11 years to fill every Senate-confirmed position in the government. That would take us into the third term of a Trump presidency.

Dont these need just a simple majority now?
And republicans have the majority...
they set the precedent. wait till it happens to them.
Republican might have the majority in name, but there are a number of turncoats in the ranks. The last Obamacare repeal and replace votes glaringly spotlight that.
Last i checked the GOP holds the house, Senate, Presidency, and has a very good position obviously the Supreme Court.
I don’t blame dems at all. I blame a congress and Senate that gives the minority its every demand, and that has fueled this Russia scam. And i blame Trump for allowing a single obama white house staffer to remain.
This is s GOP problem, not a dem one.
That’s what Rand Paul thought yesterday.
Just more posturing that means absolutely nothing. Why is he spouting out on an op-ed whining about the Democrats when the source of the entire problem is his own chamber leader?
Hammstring President Trump? How???
He’s got jobs coming in to Our Nation; He has the VA fixing things for the Vets; He is getting the Wall done; He is getting ‘illegal immigration’ done, lowest it’s been in years; Ice is working again; he stopped TTP and Paris Accord, and is working on NAFTA;
Okay so not all of his cabinet isn’t through procedures yet, but he is working for the American People and America, so where again are they stopping him???
No, gutless and uniparty RINOs are the problem.
Barry really appreciates all your work to stall the Republicans.
The Republicans used the same process to tie up Obama nominees. Did they honestly think that the Democrats would forget how it worked? Payback, as some wit once said, is a...well... we all know what it is.
Nope; it’s RINOs’ unprecedented collusion with the left. They did it before 2017 when they refused to exercise the power of the purse to defund Zerocare and often voted to fully fund it, and they are being open about it now in their spite votes.
Thereby hamstringing the country. Thanks, Dims!
The traitors within the Republican party are the real problem!
Obama had 60 Dem Senators his first two years.
The GOP didn't stop them because they didn't have the votes.
The crooks are all stalling for time.
Won’t happen. Our people “reach across the aisle.”
In parliamentary procedure, it is not always a simple matter of calling for a vote.
The minority can and has found a number of ways to stall out consideration of an issue on the floor, by demanding amendments, or raising objections, or going into a number of delaying tactics, sometimes to run out the clock, but other times to simply discourage the will of the majority.
While not necessarily a ‘win’ for the minority, the ‘win’ is also kept from the majority. Unless the majority asserts their authority by blocking these tactics and strategies.
The formal process for getting a candidate to the floor for a vote requires certain procedures be followed; votes be cast, debates be held, time allowed between steps, and so on and so forth. The process can be speeded up if both sides agree, for example the 30 required hours of debate can be cut to zero, but the Democrats aren't agreeing.
Wait until they start using their Senatorial holds. McConnell ain't seen nothing yet.
Obstruction of Governance is a crime against the Republic
McConnell could help this problem by keeping the senate in session 24/7 until the people’s business has been finished. No recess, no vacation.
Do what they were sent to Washington to do.
