Rumor Mill: Sessions To Get A Lateral Move Rather Than The Boot
hotair.com ^ | July 30, 2017

As hot Beltway rumors go, this one is extra spicy, but doesn’t appear to have very much meat on the bone. It started with an anonymously sourced story from Politico which claimed “department staffers” were suggesting that Jeff Sessions might be moved over from the Attorney General slot to replace departing General John Kelly at Homeland Security.

So, as I said, you can hear the wheels spinning inside the heads of various politicos who are looking at this. One of the biggest selling points for keeping Sessions in the administration is his hard line stance on illegal immigration. Both ICE and Border Patrol fall under DHS and they are still law enforcement agencies (though very specific ones) so Sessions looks like a natural fit. At the same time (under this theory), the vacancy left at the Justice Department could be filled by someone who might not recuse themselves from the Russia, Russia, Russia investigation and possibly even fire Mueller.

Just a rumor.

Sessions was a political appmnt. But if he were to move, I would like to see the Texas Governor appointed to the AG spot.

It would be the most brilliant political 3D chess move of all time!

Would Kelley have to be “re-approved” b by the Senate for the AG slot?

A move that is sure to tamp down the accusation that the DOJ is politicized.

Anybody already confirmed can be put in “acting” status and hold that for a year. After that, they are either confirmed for the position they were shifted to, or the acts they take come under some sort of vague legal cloud.

If the AG spot is open, I would like to see Rudy Guiliani there. I don’t think Rudy would recuse himself from anything.

Trump does one lateral move and now there's a daily rumor of the next one.

Transfer would negate his recusal for the next guy.

Correct. We would get a political hack for an AG. Worked for Obama.

My biggest fear: have the contents of Comey’s office been captured/scrubbed by the Deep State taking over the DOJ?

I always thought sessions was a natural fit for homeland security. They still have to get someone confirmed as AG which won’t be easy

Don’t think its going to happen, and Giuliani has apparently indicated he’s not interested.

Sessions to DHS, Judge Jeanine Pirro to AG. We need an outsider at the head of DOJ.

The only reason to do it would be to constrain Mueller. Not to fire him. When he goes off the reservation, new AG can pull him back in...to keep the investigation from being the witch hunt it has become.

Then, when Mueller can’t make crap up to harm trump, they’ll stop (they’ll try something else but this attack will have been thwarted).

Hopefully this would happen in under 210 days. Then slide Sssions back to AG. Done. No senate drama.

Not me. His experience isn't much on the cop side of the business enterprise of law enforcement.

Not that he couldn't do it, just that it doesn't strike me as his natural fit. Compare and contrast with Sheriff Clarke.

Hey Big Media cowards, interesting to see you reporting “rumor” instead of “leak”.

Worried about your “sources”?

“Sessions was a political appmnt. But if he were to move, I would like to see the Texas Governor appointed to the AG spot.”

I would much rather see somebody who is aggressive and also not critically important where they are. To me, that would mean somebody like Ted Cruz or Rudy Giuliani. Greg Abbott is a fantastic governor, and he has just gotten started. We don’t need him taken from us just yet, not when there are plenty of other people who would do just as great of a job. Another factor to consider is that both Cruz and Giuliani have much more knowledge of what has gone on inside DC then a complete outsider like Abbott.

Sessions has a passion when it comes to border security and stopping illegal aliens from coming across the border. He would be perfect for the job of homeland security.
