Ending affirmative action in all of its forms would only take an EEOC directive that all affirmative action policies had to include Asians in proportion to blacks and it would be over.
A 15% minority hire quota would become 10% black 5% Asian. That would be the end of it.
Most of these affirmative action admissions don’t end up graduating anyway. Even if they do graduate with a degree, most of them come away just as ignorant as when they went in. Lots of money and time wasted.
Our education sucks nowadays all because of liberals.
Very smart move by the DOJ to pick up on the Harvard lawsuit. I actually think it could be the suit that ends affirmative action at the Supreme Court. Race-conscious admissions are wrong, but most people aren’t that offended by giving a few underrepresented and presumably “disadvantaged” minorities a bit of an edge to make sure they’re there at all, but to basically cap another group is a plain quota, and that has never been OK. That the group being capped had nothing to do with past oppression is just icing on the cake.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the Left. I heard a similar segment on PBS. They obviously think that if they highlight Asians’ superior outcomes, the latest push for a system based on merit alone will enrage “us’n white folk” enough to put a dent in the Administration’s efforts here. To them, we’re too stupid and racist to be serious.
The best students should go the the best schools and race should never be a factor in college admissions.
I always enjoyed the presence of foreign students. But I wonder what it would it be like if our top universities only had a small minority of Americans. That might already be true with graduate students at some places.
A potential target for a secondary sanction. As with affirmative action, it is quite likely that colleges will blow their stack over this.
It would not bother me a bit to see the universities with 50% or as many more than that as qualify by merit of Asians or any other single group that had that merit advantage. I am for a purely merit based admissions policy for university.
If Federal financing of Universities or of schools in general were to totally disappear, merit based admissions would gain a whole lot of ground. It is the government money, direct and student loans that allows the schools to play favorites and, another subject I suppose, to offer nothing courses from which no living can be made.
Eliminate government loans. That will eliminate most of the can’t-graduates and free up space for the full fare foreigners. before the Kennedy immigration transformation, we had the best universities for what now are the STEM fields in the world and the world’s best came to them. We made it easy for them to stay here after they earned their degrees and thus we stayed more easily on top of the world by sucking off the brains of the world. There was no complaint back then about the foreigners taking American jobs because we had rational business policies, relative low taxes on business and low regulation compared to the rest of the industrialized world, The constant added fuel of foreign brains just fired up the economic engine even hotter. Now we take a few and we over sample engineers because our own industries are burdened with the expense of regulation and the advanced world’s highest taxes which makes for a stagnant or shrinking base and a necessity for companies to suck in foreign engineers and workers to reduce wages and try to stay competitive. Dump the taxes and regulations and the foreign brains will become an enrichening asset to the culture and effectively raise incomes as they expand businesses instead of being stopgaps in industries declining in the world market.

Keep the loans. Eliminate "affirmative action". Base issuance of loan on financial need and demonstrated merit.
Asians prove that the main pillar of leftist thought is one big lie.
The left’s main attack is “this society is racist and unfair and minorities can’t succeed in such an environment. Therefore justice demands that the entire environment must be changed”.
Yet a very tiny minority group, Asians, is wildly successful proving that the problem lies not with our society but instead with certain groups themselves.
This truth is death to the left and must be suppressed as their highest priority.
Keeping the government involved in financing education is keeping the government replacing education with social engineering and propaganda. If you like that and spending your career repaying loans, well, there is no help for you.
The best qualified should get the spots. Period. Like the NBA, NFL and NHL.
As long as government money flows to individuals who make the choice of curriculum, that can't happen.
"If you like that and spending your career repaying loans, well, there is no help for you."
What I do know is that my family was poor as hell, and couldn't afford to send me to college. Fortunately, I was bright enough to land some scholarships, but even with that, I still needed a loan and a part-time campus job to make ends meet. I had paid back my loan by four years into my first job. And the higher taxes I was able to pay as a working PhD chemist more than made up for the investment.
Fortunately, there "was" help for me. I advocate for keeping the baby and throwing out the bath water. Not throwing out both, as your approach would.
If the loans are available take them but don't justify them. There is no justification for them outside of a socialist levelling system.
I dont care if every seat is filled by an Asian if theyve earned the right to be there. - Ronald Reagan
My daughter was bright enough to get a couple of scholarships. She was also bright enough to take a year off and get a teller trainee job in a credit unio and learn theat trade before she went to college. She paid for most of her four years by her own work and then her 3 years for her MBA. She didn't even seek scholarships for LSU business school because her acquired talents got her a 3 year job in the campus credit union. If you had any grasp of economics you would understand that if there were no government loans or government guaranteed loans available the price of tuition would be a small fraction of what it is and the felt necessity for those loans would not be there. Before government loans scholarships could cover a much higher percentage of costs than they do now. The funds for them have not grown at nearly the pace of tuition growth. The costs that your loans are paying for are incurred in part by the presence in college of large numbers of students who have no excuse for being there but they can get loans to go and colleges to take them so they can suck in that money to pay bigger salaries to professors of useless pseudo knowledge and build bigger fancier buildings and swimming pools.
Indians (from India) also do very well. They are a minority group in the USA and have brown/black skin to boot. The “racist” society isn’t holding them back from success either.
