Nobody ever thinks about the Coast Guard until they need them. Simply forgot us for years, probably because our uniforms were just like the Navy’s except for the Treasury shield on our sleeve. Nice to see more attention in the last couple of decades. But I could do without the transgender issue. I’ve been retired for 20 years but still feel like a coastie.

Dad was a Coastie in WWII. Most of his time was spent in the far out Aleutians, hunting for Japs and trying to keep from being swamped in that gawd-awful weather. He's been gone for 52 years now, died when I was eighteen. He was a wise man. I sure could've used his counsel over all these years. Miss ya, Pop.

The current CG is over tasked, undermanned, underfunded, and suffers from mission creep. But God bless the men and women who suck it up and sacrifice every day!

I was a Naval Officer but I worked for the CG Atlantic Fleet Commander for a while. I got along famously with the rest of the staff.

Coasties are wonderful and I thank them for their service.

That said, everyone needs to be aware of what their Commandant did earlier this week...went against Trump—publicly said and looks like they are going to legally challenge TRump...in support of the obama transgender agenda :(

If you were a Coastie or know a coastie, perhaps it might be appropriate to voice your concern to appropriate parties—replace the Obama appointed Commandant!
