In all of California there aren’t much more than 7,000 or so CHP. Including desk jockeys. For the entire state. For all shifts.
That would have been a good day to drive 100 mph on the freeway.
So when people flat out lie to your face and then laugh at you, you respect them?

How so? The government spokesperson lied right to their faces saying it was not a tax. I would have laughed and ridiculed her right on the spot as well for lying right to my face. Probably because CHP absorbed the California State Police a few years back, together with all its responsibilities for premises protection.
CHP officers were very unhappy with that at the time. (Or so I was told.)
How would you know how many cops showed up? There were even more units circling the freaking block outside the parking lot in the street if you’d pay attention to the video.

When I start seeing the Police themselves start making a stink about being used as pawns for political purposes, then I will lighten up on them. I know they were respectful and professional, and they knew immediately that there was NO EMERGENCY or THREATS, just peaceful citizens, but they were still there and “Just Following Orders” of the Public Masters, instead of actually doing the right thing and ARRESTING THE 911 CALLER!!!

I’ve been routinely driving between the Bay Area and Monterey quite often and I NEVER see a CHP on the highway unless he’s sleeping on a night construction project. One thing seems obvious, they are no longer about “patrolling our highways!”
They were rude, obnoxious, and disrespectful long before the spokeswoman came out to talk to them. They barged in, throwing the f-bomb, and shouting their complaints.
That is what I have a problem with. I am not sure how you can disagree.
They were there to make a video for youtube, not to speak reasonably with the assemblyman about a tax issue. My opinion.
The spokeswoman’s response was ridiculous and the police response was comical, but these protesters accomplished nothing towards their tax issue. I can’t imagine what they hoped to accomplish other than making a video for social media.
If you think that many police swooping down in riot gear with weapons raised pointed at political protesters is comical, you must have some sort of cognitive issue, because that's an inappropriate response to stimulus.
