Mueller’s Targets Face Financial Strain

[snip]Manafort isn’t the only person facing financial challenges because of the legal costs of responding to Mueller’s probe. Michael Flynn, the retired general and deposed National Security Adviser, is struggling mightily with his mounting legal bills, according to a source familiar with his situation. The expenses has put his family’s finances under significant duress, the source said, and it’s expected he will soon create a legal defense fund to keep from going bankrupt.

Hiring the high-powered Washington lawyers necessary to respond to a deep-dive Justice Department investigation can be extraordinarily costly. And Manafort—despite his past lucrative contracts with foreign governments, and despite the fact that he owns numerous properties around the country—is feeling the pinch. Sources say that’s part of the reason he is no longer retaining WilmerHale; the firm is known for handling Congressional investigations, but Mueller’s probe has now shifted its focus to international tax issues—which meant Manafort needed lawyers with that expertise. So he has brought in Miller Chevalier, a boutique Washington law firm full of international law experts, and has parted with WilmerHale.

Muller is in conflict of interest" (The Attorney General, or in cases in which the Attorney General is recused, the Acting Attorney General, will appoint a Special Counsel when he or she determines that criminal investigation of a person or matter is warranted and - )

No crime to be found....Muller is thoroughly compromised "President Trump should not dismiss Mueller, but the Justice Department must revise the special counsel’s jurisdiction.

Muller is politicized...In May 2017, Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department as special counsel, overseeing the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections and related matters....how many "related Matters" is he allowed....how much expense is Muller allowed to brow beat and financially break Americans while exploring the interference by Russia...didn't Obama go to Israel to interfere with ( Israel elections)...........Muller and gang are trying to oust a properly elected American President...Obama did it...no one dared stop him because of the fear of being called racist and the Maxine Waters ilk who would scream and yell much as they are now....Obama is a Marxist not an American who plays by the rules....he uses his blackness to his advantage..i.e.Chicago politics..............

trying to stay away from D.C. incestuous relationships is hard.
Mueller resigned as a WilmerHale partner to become special counsel.

Why do any of them even need a lawyer at this point? No arrests yet, no charges, no indictments,...

I refuse to answer on the grounds that anything I say can and will be used against me in a court of law.

No lawyer necessary

This is an aspect of the feds and govt in general I have always despised: They have unlimited taxpayer-funded resources to try to destroy, and more often than not DO destroy, individuals.

There is no recourse to a person who has not been found guilty despite the govt’s best efforts. They just walk away.

There should be a law to reimburse anyone so damaged, and some of it should come from the prosecutors’ own pockets. A lot of these unfounded prosecutions would come to a rather sudden halt. But that would interfere with the deep govt.

The financial burden imposed on targets of these “witch-hunt” investigations is the primary objective of the investigation, not the recovery of any relevant information. All the “crimes” that are prosecuted are in fact “process crimes” as witness what happened to Scooter Libby, who was offered various promises in exchange for his “cooperation” by changing his story. He faltered, was found to be “lying” because his story was changed, and he was subjected to the charge of “lying to the FBI”.

If that is the charge, then a LOT of people should be under indictment at this very moment. It is also apparently a very flexible charge, one that changes with the intent of the prosecuting authority to obtain a scalp, any scalp, for his efforts.

Telling the truth as you understand it is not exculpatory under these conditions. It has to be told as the PROSECUTOR thinks it should be told, and than may have no congruence with truth whatsoever.

Yesterday, I sent an email to fox news Greg Jarrett, who has been doing real yeoman reporting on the Meuller and his hit-investigation. In the email I wrote:

Greg, since you are about the only one accurately reporting on Meuller’s “investigation”, you guys should put together a “Meuller - Taxpayer Debt Clock” to show the running cost to taxpayer’s, of the Meuller fishing expedition. You know, like the running debt clock from Obama’s era. America needs to know what the farce is costing.

It might be useful if we could FReep this or something like it to shine light on this Meuller fiasco.

Just my $.02.

It is really unfair that people have to pay lawyers to protect them from a government fishing for a crime

Trump needs to fund their defenses.

A corporation provides attorneys to its agents who are sued for performing their jobs. These people are being investigated for the crime of working with Trump. It would not be obstruction for him to ensure that they weren’t impoverished by it.

One effect of this witch hunt, probably intended, is to send a signal to every person in the country that if you work for Trump, we will destroy you. We will find something. Trump needs to put an end to it, after a series of speeches around the country laying out his case for it being nothing more than a deep state coup.

Why People Detest Lawyers

That's the Prosecutor Game, isn't it? - Seek convictions, not justice.

If they can't pin a crime on their victim they just drive them into the poor house fighting bogus accusations.

It starts with Rosenstein’s improper authorization. Rosenstein’s authorization memo appointing Mueller does not state the grounds for the authorization. The memo does not state:

• what violation(s) of law are suspected
• what evidence exists to support those suspicions
• a time limit for the conduct of the investigation

The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations requires that a special counsel not be appointed unless and until it is determined that there are grounds for a criminal investigation (28 CFR 600.1) yet Rosenstein has appointed a special council without specifying any criminal act to investigate.

Rosenstein’s authorization lacks grounding.

Additionally, Rosensteins authorization to Mueller cites Comey’s testimony: “The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confirmed by then-FBI Director James B. Corney in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017...” Comey explicitly and unambiguously described a counterintelligence investigation, not a criminal investigation. Why is Rosenstein citing Comey?

Jeff Sessions is the Attorney General. He has recused himself from investigating alleged Russian interference in 2016 elections. He still has a responsibility to control a rogue deputy who appoints a special counsel without legal grounding.
