I think we should examine the statistics of how many times dead bodies have ended up in the lunch room in the past 15 years. Then we would have a clear picture of the problem.

You do have to wonder.

And they should have.

Although I have always wondered if Anne had a hand in it.

Yes, it was very good. Very atmospheric. I was just poking around the library catalog and found a couple I’ve missed.

I will have to snag it the next time it comes into the shop. I am currently reading Phyllis McGinley's "Sixpence in Her Shoe".

A really delightful book. And it shows that the more things change the more they stay the same.

MTA...some things never change.

Wrong MTA.When that song was written Boston's transit system was called the Metropolitan Transit Authority (the MTA).And NYC's transit system was,and still is,referred to as the MTA (but I don't know what it stands for).

Some years later (can't recall when) the name of Boston's system was changed to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

The song you refer to mentions Scolly Square...Roxbury...and Jamaica Plain, all sections of the City of Boston (Scolly Square became "Government Center" after the song was released).

I am familiar with Phyllis McGinley, “The Year Without a Santa Claus,” but that’s the only one my library has.

I just bought two books by Joachim Jeremias, a mid-century Bible scholar, off Alibris.com. My pastor has been waving “Parables of Jesus” around for the last several weeks. He’s a big reader.

I wish I knew Greek better, though.

Uh...like maybe I was joking?

Anyway, as for that mythical doomed rider on the Boston MTA: his wife threw him a sandwich every time the train roared past; why didn’t she put his fare in one of them?

;^)

Sorry...didn't know where you're from and I didn't know just how well you remember the lyrics.I've ridden what today is the MBTA since I was a kid and NYC's transit system for years.

Good point!
