The Internal Revenue Service rehired 213 employees who ducked taxes, falsified documents, were convicted of theft, or made unauthorized use of taxpayer data, an inspector generals report says.
The Office of Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, which also first discovered the IRS targeting of conservative groups in 2013, examined the agencys hiring from January 2015 through March 2016.
For these 15 months, the IRS official in charge was Commissioner John Koskinen, an appointee of resident Barack Obama.
House Republicans for months sought to impeach Koskinen for obstructing a congressional probe into the agencys targeting of the applications for tax-exempt status made by nonprofit tea party and conservative groups.
As a political appointee in the executive branch, Koskinen doesnt have the civil service protections that career government employees do. President Donald Trump could order his firing at will.
Obama named Koskinen to the job in 2013, directing him to clean up the targeting scandal. But Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said he obstructed their probe and should be impeached.
I dont know why President Trump hasnt fired John Koskinen since there is more evidence the agency is mismanaged, said Peter Flaherty, president of the National Legal and Policy Center, a conservative government watchdog group.
Koskinen is a very typical Washington creature and is very at home in the swamp, Flaherty said in an interview with The Daily Signal. Its a puzzle to me why Trump hasnt acted.

I wonder what percentage of the rehires were of the persuasion of affirmative action? I am willing to bet its three times the number of the percentage of the population that is represented.
If this is swamp draining, I think people deserve a refund.
Another BAD idea from the District of Corruption.
The IRS needs to be abolished. PERIOD!
Waiting for his audit to be completed?
I told you guys that Trump was not interested in seeing justice being served.
He lied to me, and got my vote. Now I am sorry.
"The IRS rehired 2,000 former employees from 2015 through early 2016, the inspector generals report says. Many were seasonal employees, and about 10 percent were problematic."
Forget the swamp-thing. It is a nasty CESSPOOL that needs to be drained and filled in.
IRS working hard to regain public trust. Oversight anyone?
Koskinen must go.
It is almost certainly because he is still under audit and wants to avoid the appearance of abuse of power. Maybe if more negative stories like this get out, it will give him cover to do the right thing.
It’s almost impossible to fire a Federal employee unless you Seth Rich them.
“Waiting for his audit to be completed?”..........
That tells it all, nothing more to say except perhaps the other shoe will drop once Trumps audit is complete.
There definitely needs to be a complete house cleaning (swamp draining) particularly within the IRS. I have dealt with a few affirmative action employees at the IRS on a few occasions and can tell you, IF I owned a “McDonald’s”, those people wouldn’t qualify for a job.
Getting rid of the income tax would be the most monumentally great thing to happen to the United States since its founding. A simple retail sales tax could quickly and easily be implemented. Some very scaled-down version of the IRS would be needed to oversee the sales tax collection. Unfortunately, too many swamp critters depend on the current repressive, complicated system and, therefore, nothing significant will ever change.
At the end of the day it is basically IMPOSSIBLE to fire a Federal Employee. They have endless avenues of appeal, and will eventually win reinstatement if they hold out long enough.
Congress needs to fix this.
“If this is swamp draining, I think people deserve a refund.”
I had no idea that smiling perjurer was still running the IRS zoo.
Why is the FED-GOV hiring?
As a political appointee in the executive branch, Koskinen doesnt have the civil service protections that career government employees do.
Because he's got the goods on half of the senior officials in DC: "If I go down, you f**ks are goin' wit' me!"
