DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews said Tuesday his office will seek charges against protestors who pulled down a Confederate statue outside the old courthouse Monday evening.

In a statement, Sheriff Andrews said he was grateful that no one was hurt and that county leaders decided to act with restraint towards the demonstrators.

"Collectively, we decided that restraint and public safety would be our priority. As the Sheriff, I am not blind to the offensive conduct of some demonstrators nor will I ignore their criminal conduct. With the help of video captured at the scene, my investigators are working to identify those responsible for the removal and vandalism of the statue," he said.

I must admit, I'm surprised with this response as the LEOs present merely stood around and watched. Orders from higher up no doubt forced them to stay out of it. :(

By all means make them pay to replace it.

By all means make them pay to replace it.

By all means beat them to a bloody pulp while the crime was in progress.

Throw that out, I guess.

"Collectively, we decided that restraint and public safety would be our priority.

And the "brave" Sheriff would have said the same thing if the same mob was dragging you out of your house to lynch you. (which is another good reason to be armed, when the SHTF, law enforcement runs away).

This is closing the barn door after the horse has been stolen and the cops were watching the horse thief do the deed.

Keystone cops at their best with the three stooges and Marx brothers as their administrators.

They won't pay a penny. They'll be treated as heroes and some celebrity with deep pockets will pay any fine incurred. The statue will never be replaced.

Sure they did. The question is, what did they swear to protect and serve?

If I were a perpetrator in this, I would argue in my defense that when I saw the police standby by and doing nothing, I logically assumed it was not a crime to take part in the activity.

I doubt that these thugs will get the same harsh treatment as the those at the Bundy ranch or OR wildlife refuge.
These thugs wantonly destroyed public property, the Bundys were only were trying to protect their own property rights.

This is where Sessions should put his efforts; he should be fighting the Deep state useful idiots, but no out faux conservative AG just wants to be a big man and beat up on those that believe in individual rights.

They might want to go ahead and put up a list of what they will preserve and what they will protect. Once you get the full list....then you can plan accordingly to haul around a shotgun and cover the 50-percent of the laws that they won’t preserve, and just start doing citizens-arrest. Makes you wonder why bother having thirty-odd deputies on the payroll. Maybe they just need one sheriff and one deputy.

As long as law enforcement is standing around and watching the destruction of public property, they can put away their guns and carry cameras and start filming the Communists and their ignorant partners in BLM so arrests can be made. It would be interesting to see how many of the vandals were imported and on Soros’s payroll.

Should have stopped them, arrested them and he would still get to protest......

Obviously the decision NOT to arrest at the time was politically motivated.....

Hey Sheriff Andrews...you are selling out a long line of Sheriffs going back to the first Sheriff in 1620.

Sheriff = Sher + riff

Sher = Shire

Rif = Reef, as in reef the sails = Secure

Sheriff = Secure the Shire

and you abandoned your duty.
