A mother has been arrested after five children were found eating dog food off the floor of her flat which was stained with faeces urine and cockroach carcasses, police said.
Officers from the force in Middletown, Connecticut, were "immediately taken aback" by the smell emanating from inside of Chloe Edwards home.
They were investigating the property after a fire safety officer alerted them to a large pile of rubbish by the 27-year-old's front door, as they investigated an air conditioner fire. MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Police arrested a woman Thursday after they found five children living in deplorable conditions in a third floor Connecticut apartment, according to WTIC.
Police and fire crews were called to the apartment in downtown Middletown around 2 p.m. after a report of an air conditioner fire caused by a cigarette thrown from the third floor window. The rear exit of the apartment was blocked by trash, fire officials learned.
The health department was also on scene because of complaints that there was a leak from the apartment into the second floor ceiling.
Chloe Edwards, 27, opened the door when officers arrived and they were “taken back by the smell coming from the apartment.” Police said the carpet was covered with food, urine, feces, and cockroach carcasses. There were “a multitude of flies were in the apartment as well.”

“It’s always best if the family stays together” is CPS’s canned recommendation. Even when there’s sexual abuse. I believe it’s because there is no place to put the kids. Nobody wants them.
When the federal govt stops giving taxpayer dollars to states as a reward for paying welfare, it will end. Until then this and child support collection, federal meal programs for schools all get mega federal bucks.

Yep. The real questions is: was she also filling up on dog-food - or was she spending the bulk of the kids food allowance on something else?

I don’t believe that nobody wants the children. The system is set up for the mother to get the children back over and over. Nobody wants to deal with loving those children and then having to send them back to that.
I could never do foster care, I would get too attached and not be able to let them go, especially if I knew they were going back to a “mother” like this. I would have taken in abused and/or neglected children years ago if I could have just been able to love and raise them as my own. I believe there would be homes for these children if it worked that way. If you want to adopt you have to deal with the system trying to reunite them with parents over and over for years before you would have the chance to adopt.
I don’t know how people are able to foster children, my hat is off to them because I could not do it.
