New Yorker magazine seems to have this deep psychological need for President Donald Trump to be officially called crazy by psychiatrists. That need is so urgent that their August 23 article by Jeannie Suk Gersen on this subject almost exactly echoes their May 22 story by Jane Mayer on the same topic. Both articles urgently plead for the end to the "Goldwater Rule" that wisely prohibits psychiatrists from calling public figures nuts if they hadn't personally examined them. Here is Gersen on the couch relaying her shrink fantasy in Will Trump Be the Death of the Goldwater Rule?:

True to form for leftists, anyone in the old Soviet Union who was against the communist party was declared insane.
The so-called anti-fascists are supporters of the murderous communist system, which murdered more than 100 million innocent people during the 20th century alone.

Only Trump’s personal physician knows about his mental state and he is barred by ethics rules from disclosing it without Trump’s consent.
There is such a thing as patient privacy. What Democrats don’t really like are Trump’s personal and political views. But that’s different from an assessment of mental instability.
And no one has shown Trump is certifiably crazy to the point where he needs to be removed from office.
No, they want to be able to call every American in public life or private who is not 100% in step with global communism crazy.
They can then go after taking their weapons away from them and have them locked up.
“Crazy” is what the government declares you to be so as to justify putting you in a jail that is not called a jail, but a “mental institution.”
They are the crazy ones.
Never mind the Goldwater rule, medical ethics should not allow them to make public assessments of people in general, and especially of people they don’t even know.
You left out those “crazy” people that believe the Bible as truth. They’re laying the groundwork to start rounding up people like me. History proves I’m right.
I am an undocumented psychiatrist and I have diagnosed Jeannie Suk Gersen as suffering from severe moral narcissism , delusion and border line personality disorder.
So, if a “Professional” issues a “professional opinion”, and that opinion is documented to be false, out of malice, AND part of a broad attempt to overthrow a valid US election . . .

I guess its only fair, because I believe 95% of psychiatrists are themselves crazy.
Many years ago did psychological testing on psychiatry resident doctors and on inpatient psych unit patients. There wasn’t any difference.
I’m all for having them call him insane just so I can watch them get sued into oblivion.
Psychiatrists are the least respected in the medical specialities. Most are lunatics. Doctor...treat thy self.
