US must retreat from Afghanistan for there to be ‘peace’, Taliban leader says
Long War Journal ^ | 30 August 2017 | Thomas Joscelyn

Posted on 08/31/2017 9:57:03 AM PDT by Lorianne

The Taliban released a statement attributed to its emir, Hibatullah Akhundzada, earlier today. The propaganda message was clearly crafted with a Western audience in mind. Like other statements published by the jihadist group, Akhundzada’s message should be subjected to scrutiny and not taken at face value, especially given that parts of it are directly contradicted by the Taliban’s own words and deeds.

Akhundzada explains that “peace” is only possible if the US and its Western allies, referred to as “occupation” forces, retreat from the country. “The main obstacle in the way of peace is the occupation,” Akhundzada’s statement reads. “Peaceful solution of the Afghan issue is the main pillar of the policy of the Islamic Emirate, should the occupation come to an end. To this end, the political office has been tasked to find a peaceful solution.”

Akhundzada’s ultimatum can be restated as: Hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban and there will be “peace.”

NATO is standing up the Afghan government in its brutal war with the Taliban. Should the US and its allies retreat from Afghanistan, as Akhundzada wants, this would only clear the way for the jihadists to advance further. No one could seriously think that the Taliban would end its jihad should the Afghan government be forced to fight on its own. Therefore, Akhundzada’s precondition for supposed “peace” is entirely self-serving — the Taliban is not offering to lay down its arms or give up its quest to restore its “Islamic Emirate” to power. The jihadists simply want their “foreign” enemies to leave, thereby making it easier to conquer even more of the country.

OK but it is STILL not our business to be propping up a failed aspirational central government and army (for 15+ YEARS and counting ... apparently to eternity).

Afghanistan has never ever had a central government to speak of much less a strong one and has never ever been a 'nation' in the sense that we think of nation. 'Afghanistan' is lines on a map ... that never has been and never will be defended as a whole entity ... as a 'nation'. It has always been a collection of headmen and tribal leaders squabbling over various and sundry pieces of geography.

Apparently Afghanistan is going to be our 51st State. We've spent more US taxpayer federal money there than on any other US State ... not to mention lives/limbs lost. Apparently our motto is:

Muslims + Their Interminable Squabbles First

I would like to sea a cost/benefit analysis on remaining in Afghanistan. I suspect the money would be better spent almost anywhere else. Not to mention the American lives lost. Suppose we did win. What is to stop another Democrat president from giving the victory away like Obama did in Iraq?

Maybe the afghanistan as razed to the ground, no stone left standing one upon the other, salted earth, and then the suggestion that the medinan sura be dropped from the active files.....

Or just get out and let sharia become the law of the land.

And once we are gone, they will take over and begin making plans for another attack on the USA.

Wherever there is Islam, there is never peace.

“And once we are gone, they will take over and begin making plans for another attack on the USA.”

I guess that’s the rationale for our staying. But I am opposed to the continuing risks to our troops and the pi$$ing away of more of our taxpayer dollars. Someone in the Trump Admin. needs to really lay out the case for staying as far as I am concerned.

Surrender and there will be peace...

Or - we can keep dropping MOABs...

+++++

Hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban and there will be “peace.”

The vast majority of this is pure folly.

Let’s get the heck out now!

Yeah. Everyone has to be a muslim or a dhimmi to get to Dar al-harb.

Otherwise, it is Dar al-Islam 24x7.

The problem is that on 9/11 their interminable squabbles paid us a visit.

We could have stopped that if we weren’t so silly about our borders.

We aren’t doing anything right now that would disrupt anyone anywhere from “making plans.” We could occupy every square foot of that country and still not prevent “planning.” It’s a silly notion that somehow occupying a country somehow prevents acts of terror from being planned. Or even implemented!

Didn’t Adolph say something similar to Neville Chamberlain ?

History can’t be ignored, at least successfully.

Thank you.
Unfortunately some (including our top military) need a reminder from Capt. Obvious.

Not to quibble, but I believe that’s backwards —

Dar al-harb is The House of War — it means someone somewhere is not a Muslim or a Dhimmi. There is work to be done (jihad).

Dar al-Islam is The House of Peace — it means the Muslims have totally stomped and subjugated all of their opponents.

Rag tag Afghans and assorted other 3rd world Muslims are not going to take over or invade the West militarily or try to.

And anyway, they don’t need to.
Europe (and Canada) are sending them engraved invitations for them to come in to stay.

You are assuming we will stay there long enough for the next Democrat administration. There are only two ways out, another
ISIS vacuum filler or decimate them and leave while they are still checking themselves for new posterior orifices where they should not be.

We have never tried the latter so why not give a drumming a chance?
