Lecturer discusses global climate change awareness
Kansas State University Collegian ^ | September 13, 2017 | By Taylor Luck

How public acceptance of climate change increases after viewing scientific information was the topic of the latest lecture given by Michael Ranney, professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley.

“The whole world doesn’t want climate change to be true, but climate scientists are banding together saying this is true — this should tell people something,” Ranney said.

Ranney and his colleagues have been able to prove that the acceptance of global climate change can increase, no matter the person, with the presence of data.

Aida Farough, assistant professor of geology, said as a scientist, she has no doubt climate change is real and is happening in real time.

“I believe the skeptics of climate change have not received proper education in science, or there is some benefit [for them], financially or otherwise, in denying climate change”.

Aaron Gallaway, sophomore in statistics and business administration, said Ranney helped him understand global warming more, and he said he also better understands how he can help produce change in the Earth’s climate.

“We need to try to be more connected with politics,” Gallaway said. “Attempting contact with politicians like senators could help in spreading the information about global climate change and how important it is.”

The answer to lies is truth. If the things that the warmists looked at were the only things we could know, it would be quite a pardonable error to be concerned about this.

But they aren’t. They are giving us a keyhole view. And their invective against warmism skeptics should give us pause about what’s driving these folks. Oh, the skeptics aren’t just “wrong” or “mistaken.” They are “deniers” — a term which is normally reserved to describe attitudes about absolute revealed theological truths. And even there, only sometimes.

In other words, I have come to have faith in the cult of the climate gods. Mother gaia has provided us a perfect habitat, and a sinful and wicked mankind is destroying it. He will be punished with fire!

“...increases after viewing scientific information ...”

Change that to “....increases after viewing pseudo-scientific information....”

I’ll debate that “lecturer” anywhere, anytime, and any place.
Er, change “any place” to “a reputable STEM department in a REAL university”.

The alarmists’ case would be stronger if they weren’t caught fudging the data to make it look worse than it is.

Oh are they push this hard.

Folks, sanity is gone and unfortunately there is a carbon tax in our future. The only thing that has saved us is Trump and the Leftists and Communists are hitting him hard from all sides.

If one’s basic assumptions are fallacious, one cannot help but come to incorrect conclusions. They can go through their steps agains and again and be wrong, if their assumptions are wrong. Alas, there are people getting salaries at universities who are not investigating the veracity of what they have been programmed to call axiomatic.

I went to my college reunion at a well-regarded college in a well-regarded university and the “religion” of “man-make climate change” was central to the reunion programming, coming off not as a scientific presentation, but as a coordinated sales pitch, dripping with sarcasm for anyone who “still” had another point of view.

This, along with a market basket of other politically correct propaganda and a big, big push for the presidential candidacy of Barack Obama and adulation of the “glory days” of full-scale civil disobedience in defiance of university administrators.

"...climate change is real and is happening in real time."

Earth's climates have been changing since the beginning....the point all these learned scientist refuse to admit is that man can do nothing about the changing climates. They want their grants, and the government wants more taxes....climate change believers, i is believed...have mush for brains!

I have a solution: force the AGW people to provide facts and exact measurable predictions. If the measured data fails to match the predictions exactly then “the law” becomes void and all participants are punished by either losing their jobs or by public scorn or both.

Put your money and your reputation on the line.

That includes the scientists to claim that it absolute. No scientist would ever claim that science is exact and absolute.

We need to force this and the punishment should be harsh.

“Climate change” is like a cargo cult when the cargo never arrived the first time!

Yeah... this is such a common verbal prestidigitation and still they are so seldom called on it.

I believe the skeptics of climate change have not received proper education in science,

My skepticism of AGW (not climate change) is based entirely in science - that of Paleoclimatology, and even climate shifts in recorded human history. Your belief in AGW is based largely on computer models and manipulated data sets, which by definition is not science.

Interesting.

This account is written in a secular manner, and yet Christians should be able to understand why, even though it is in a mixed up mind.

The real cargo is the grace of God. The answer is evangelism.

Under some set of conditions, the things that the changists look at might actually bump earth’s climate into a more tropical state. But do mankind’s puny fires constitute such conditions? Their CO2 is not the largest signal in the system. Water vapor is, and it gets overlooked because it is so ubiquitous. And water vapor has the salutary property of being able to make clouds and thus shield the globe.

Awareness? It’s lied about in most tv shows, movies, news articles, schools and now telethons. The only people who seem to believe it are those that are receiving lots of money to. What exactly does that tell you about it?

I’m a K-state grad, though when walking those grounds I wore a much younger man’s Wranglers.
A lot of the professors there, particularly in the soft sciences, are as guilty of the `me too!’ fallacy as local newspapers in small towns are of wanting to be the NYT.

The comment following the article is probably typical of the way most Wildcats thought about this lecture:

pacman • 16 minutes ago
“It is vacuous speech at best. No one questions the fact that climate changes. The question is, are we warming, cooling, about to enter a cooling phase, increased warming, the level of cooling or warming and the proximate causes. Significant numbers of physicists, climatologists, meteorologists, geologists, and others would disagree with this pontificating psychologist. It’ always amusing to listen to clowns like him implying those who disagree with him are wrong and they simply need to change their thinking. Perhaps he and those who espouse his drivel should accept the data that exonerate man as the prime mover of climate change.”

IOW, don’t pizzle on my Noconas and tell me it’s raining.

< No one questions the fact that climate changes.>
At any given time there is some area of the world that's cooler/hotter/dryer/wetter/windier/snowier than average. There has always been climate change occurring, but it's G-D MADE climate change.

The climate has always been changing since the beginning of time.
Where I live has been both glacial and tropical.
Since the last ice age it has been much warmer than it currently is and humanity thrived.
The Minoan and Roman eras were marked by much warmer temperatures.
This interglacial period has lasted longer than most.
If they really want to worry about something, they should be worried about the next time the Sun cycles down.
The earth will be covered in ice again, it has spent more time that way than the way it is now.
