Some critics of ending the national endowment for the arts has complained that “some art projects would happen at all without grants from the endowment”.

The correct response is:

“Yes and in too many instances that would be a good thing, because if it were really a great project, one of the very many private, corporate and foundation funds for grants to the arts would have funded it.”
