Cops in some crime-ridden South Bronx neighborhoods have all but abandoned aggressive or intuitive policing to avoid getting sued or otherwise derailing their careers, officers admitted to The Post.
It also comes against the backdrop of a nationwide outcry against aggressive policing. Scores of NFL players have being kneeling during the national anthem at games to protest police brutality.
Several precinct patrol officers recalled incidents in which they didnt bust suspected drug dealers who were taunting them while recording with cellphone cameras.
In one case, a cop said, neighbors were leaning out their windows, shouting at us to go away.
In the past, wed stand our ground, start issuing summonses. But we just moved on, a cop recalled. It was hard, to be honest.
The NYPDs most recent stats show shootings in the precinct have jumped 64 percent, from 14 to 23, so far this year compared to the same period in 2016.
Citywide, shootings have fallen 23 percent in the same time period.
Murders have tripled, from two to six, in the 42nd, while the citywide murder rate fell 24 percent.

behave like a military occupying a foreign land - get treated like shit
Why are their elevated arrests and elevated police presence in those communities?
As for people yelling at the cops for leaving, it’s their kids who will be shot when dive-bys take place.
Enforce the law, and to hell with the ingrates.
The (South?) Bronx has been a hell-hole since at least the late 60s.
Car 54 where are you?
Heard the DA in the Bronx is on the criminals side. Family friend told me when he makes an arrest he must appear in court he is grilled by the DA and the criminals lawyers as if he was on trial and to top it off the desk sergeant sez you better have your paper work in order T’s crossed I’s dotted if you lose the case you will lose vacation days. These are the men and women that protect us and what they must endure at the hands of these creeps
That whole scenario has crossed my mind. If I were a police officer dressed in blue, and saw what the NFL was doing to my friends, I would walk REAL slow after I got a 911 call, kind of like the defense exposed the white QG who stood for the anthem. I would say that my GPS got lost, and I went to the wrong neighborhood, but I think I would find it real hard to want to lay my life down and protect someone who constantly complains about the service I give.
If cops are going after women’s busts in the Bronx, I expect they would get sued, if not slapped.
Good. Let the law of the jungle take over. Make yourselves invisible to all but the most serious crimes.
They get slapped with a suit!
When the people you employ to enforce the law,
are reluctant to enforce the law,
then why do you continue to employ them?
To be a cop in feral-American strongholds is exactly like military occupying a resisting population.
We’re having a domestic South Viet Nam. If your bosses don’t give you what you need to win, then tie your hands, you won’t win.
And pulling out doesn’t help. You’ve seen what ferals do to their own (with our money) public housing. Even gorillas don’t foul their own nest.
If you’re going to take them to court, and win, for doing their jobs, it’s not a reason that they should be fired.
Ya gotta laugh (or cry) at the consequences of liberal policies.
... tell me I’m a dirty Scot.
thanks for illuminating the attitude that results in further failure
I’m thinking some serious TORT reform would be almost as beneficial to the USA as an obamacare repeal.
So, what would you do?
