Nah, it only blinds and disfigures, which is what the thugs switched to acid in the first place. Stab someone with a knife in Britain and you'll be charged with attempted murder. Throw acid in their face and it's only a "grievous bodily harm" charge.

"Corrosive substances" include both acids and bases. In any debate, it's important to use precise definitions. In this case, the correct terminology is used in the body of the report; but, not in the title.
For instance, most household drain cleaners are strong bases. An "acid ban" would ignore them.
That said, I agree completely with the substance of your statement -- especially the second sentence.
