In CT we have a choice—Democratic crooks or Republican crooks.

And that, Sir, is why I can never understand why people like Eric Erickson spew their thoughts on what is wrong with the Democratic party and what they need to do, to fix it. I realize that he and the other pundits have to make a living and that’s how they do it. But, I’m all for what the Dem’s and the Left are doing to this country. The more ANTIFA/BLM, etc do what the do, the more people it pushes away from the dem’s.
Most people are in the middle, I think. And the more chaos and divisiveness is sowed, the more the people that are, Left of Center, will start voting for Republicans. Whether they do it enthusiastically or holding their nose, a vote is a vote.
New England Republicans are no different than Democrats. Still a very liberal region. Trump will still lose the NE states by large margins again in 2020.
Phil Scott is not a republican in my book but in socialist Vermont he’s a Conservative. Here in New Hampshire we have Chris Sununu, also right of Shaheen and Hassan but not by much

There is a movement to encourage Susan Collins (Senator from Maine) to run for Governor in 2018 - I guess that would open up the Senate seat for Paul LePage.
She turns 65 this year, and also goes over 20 years in the Senate, locking in a sweet pension. She could probably do significantly better by stacking a State pension on top, than by incrementally increasing her Federal pension a bit more.
It is certainly a face-saving way to exit the Senate - perhaps the most prestigious position she could aspire to outside the Senate. They would need to decide soon - within a few months, even if it is not announced till Spring. Probably keep the bidding going for a while, to run up the commitments/sweeteners.
Because when they came to the USA, they sent out scouts all over the country to find out where they could get the best welfare.
Lewiston - Auburn, Maine, and Portland, Maine were it.

The latter group needs to ask for their money back, from what I see the coping isn’t happening.
A Republican in New England might not be a conservative, but I would say mostly a libertarian Republican. My cousins from Maine, Vermont and Connecticut are more of a small government and they are for gun rights, but gay marriage and legalization of drugs are their causes, also. (One of my cousins is gay.) DeplorableAmerican (aka dad) said that Connecticut will flip in 2018.

Gmnt is in the pockets of the unions and represents those with a hand out vs working class people.
The fools in the state keep voting these a holes in.
Maybe a supplemental property tax bill will open some eyes but I kinda doubt it.

Republican operatives here in Maine told me Collins would lose if she ran for governor.
My sister thinks Collins wants to run for president and plans to use the governorship as a springboard to accomplish that goal. No thank-you.
I wouldn’t vote for her if she was running for dog catcher.

John Baldacci, a previous RAT governor, was responsible for the welfare goodies for “refugees.”
The current conservative governor, Paul LePage, reigned in much of those freebies.
Maine was once a sanctuary state. Within days of taking office in January 2011, LePage ended that.

If it is next week, it seems like it is likely a no, and she is stating put - unless she has been made some super offer we don’t know about.

Aside from the current Maine gov, LePage, the most conservative governor in NE in my lifetime was Ed King of Mass, a Democrat.
The media is missing everything, the long overdue realignment of the upper midwest they never saw coming, but was obvious it was going to happen for 30+ years.... especially once the one thing that had kept this region D, that being industrial/manufacturing and the union employees they had evaporated... Had Republicans not been stupid they could have flipped the upper midwest/rust belt decades ago.
New England is on the same path....Probably won’t happen all at once like the upper midwest did, will be likely more incremental like the south realignment happened, but it will indeed happen.
Demcorat party has only the coastal metro states left... The southwest may see some demographic immigration shifting, but that’s their only prayer and expansion in the near future... they are in decline everywhere.
Collins is a non starter nationally.. her actions have alienated her from the majority of the party electorate... if she tries to run for president she’ll have to do it as a democrat.. she has no shot at the nomination as a Republican.
Can’t say how she’d do in her home state, but she is a complete non starter nationally as a republican.

I sat next to a Somali on an international flight and talked to him for a few hours (he lived in Sweden). Your assessment, in general, was borne out by what he said.
Somalia may be poor and undeveloped, but cell phones are widespread. They compare notes on the experiences of Somali immigrants all over the world, and discuss endlessly where the best prospects are.
It is perhaps the single most popular career choice for young men (to become and immigrant or refugee), and they give it the full attention/consideration that any young man would when considering his best path in life. Successful immigrant/refugees are the most economically successful role models they have, who don’t carry guns professionally.

Hubby and I have been exploring all over the southeast U.S. over the past 10+ years (on and off). It's only a matter of time before we make the exodus out of CT, like thousands before us.
I will leave with kind of a heavy heart, as I still have lots of family and friends here in the northeast. Makes me SO angry the 'RATs have destroyed the state I (mostly) grew up in.
