“Banning bump stocks would no more allow the government to seize our guns than enforcing traffic laws would cause the government to seize our cars.”

But it sets a precedent and opens the question, what rate of fire shall the Feds allow? Bump stocks allow about 100-200 RPM, maybe, but should that limit be set lower?

Also, if semis are banned, the bump stock issue is irrelevant.

I have the perfect bump stock; the index finger of my right hand.

Want to cut it off?

They can regulate all they want. It will not save a single human life.

Waste of time. Just allow citizens to carry arms. When targets return fire, there will be none of this mass shooting tripe.

Support open and concealed carry of both rifles and pistols
in public.

Read the press release.

I know that many lawyers have said that things like bump stocks could be ruled illegal by the ATF at any time, and not to purchase one.

[Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox urged the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to review the legality of so-called bump stocks. They stopped short of pushing Congress to pass a bill banning or regulating the devices.]

This is a pitfall also as it increases the power of ATF to regulate at the urging of a president or on their own.

The other pitfall is Congress passing legislation with a free for all vehicle to pass further restrictions.

IMO, if the cops/feds have them, the citizens should have the right to have them.

The #1 purpose of the 2d Amendment is to give the citizens the power to protect themselves from an oppressive government (not hunting, not militias, not any of the crap that liberals claim it’s for). You can’t defend against a cannon with a pea-shooter.

Disclosure: I know nothing about bump stocks.

Saying that they should be illegal because some guy had trouble controlling the gun is like saying matches should be illegal because some guy accidentally started a fire. Or that sledgehammers should be illegal because some guy wasn’t strong enough to control it and hit himself in the leg. ... or many similar analogies.

I’m not in favor of limiting freedom. Stupid people or weak people or whatever will always manage to misuse things. That doesn’t mean that the ability to have them should be taken away from everyone.

Just because I don’t like something someone else does, does not mean I should call for a law against it. That is how liberals/democrats/progressives think. If my neighbor is incompetent or a menace behind the wheel of a car, I should try to get his driver’s license taken away, not try to ban everyone from driving or make cars illegal.

“I fully support people who want full auto, just go through the process and get the license. These cheep workarounds risk us loosing access to the weapons we need.”

The hell they do, acquiescence is what costs us rights and freedoms. Never forget that! The price of freedom is eternal vigilance - vigilance against government intrusion.

The gun is still semi auto even with a bump stock.

Please educate yourself before posting your nonsense.

You are truly a special kind of stupid if you believe that banning these will do anything to stop madmen.

Once again, only the law-abiding are hurt.

I agree with you about the odious Hughes amendment. One thing to keep in mind was that this was passed on a dubious voice vote. Yes, there is no record of which congresscritters voted to limit Constitutional rights of citizens. Charles Rangel was presiding and refused to allow a recorded vote, ignoring calls for a recorded vote. Just imagine the howls from the Abortocrats if a significant restriction were to be placed on abortion by Republicans without the nicety of a recorded vote.
So here we are, with transferable drop in auto sears selling for upwards of $15,000. Perhaps a dollars worth of steel and half an hour on the milling machine selling for as much as a low end new car.

I used to own an ORIGINAL Browning T-Bolt .22 rimfire. Unfortunately it, like so many weapons, was lost in a boating accident but I bring it up to say that, for those who are unfamiliar, the T-Bolt used a bolt that moved straight back for extraction and straight forward for loading with no need to raise the bolt handle before moving it back to extract the fired shell or load another. I learned to shoot it by putting my ring finger on the trigger, catching the bolt handle between my thumb and index finger and simply rocking my hand back and forth. I could hold it against my hip and fire it so fast that it sounded like a semi-auto being fired as fast as the trigger can be pulled.

I know that many lawyers have said that things like bump stocks could be ruled illegal by the ATF at any time, and not to purchase one.

I mentioned that too... the ATF has changed their minds on other things. Some manufacturer gets a letter from the ATF saying "all good bro!" and then months or years later, the ATF is like "er, wait..." and all of a sudden people are being told "you gotta turn that shiny thing back in or get hit with felony charges".

They'll probably do it again... for example, just wait until someone uses a stabilizing brace in a crime. They'll say "oh, wait, that makes a short-barreled rifle after all" and make instant potential felons out of thousands of customers.

Basically, the ATF has metaphorically shot themselves in the foot by being stupid and thinking it was their job to restrict certain types of things. You work yourself into ridiculous corners like the pistol brace thing, or this silly thing about "is bump firing the same as full auto" because they're so caught up in minutiae they don't see the big picture (keeping guns away from the criminals, and wasting time trying to keep them from good guys instead).

I bought a suppressor kit from a seller... all perfectly legal because I filed for the form and didn't begin my build until I had that stamp in hand. The kit was a metal tube and a set of undrilled plugs/baffles. The seller had a letter of assurance that they were compliant with all laws, but lo and behold, the ATF changed their mind and made them stop all sales.

Never mind that you can do the exact same thing with a flashlight and a trip to the plumbing aisle... the mere notion that a place was selling them in a package was somehow... different. I guess if you wanted to be silly about it, every Home Depot is really a bomb and gun factory in disguise.

Another awesome example is the ATF song and dance around the "can cannon". Okay, it was a goofy little thing that would launch a beer/soda can. If you attached this thing to your rifle and tried to shoot an actual 5.56 round, you would seriously hurt yourself and your weapon... there's no path for the bullet to exit... you'll hit the muzzle device hard.

The can cannon is meant to be shot with blanks that simply create the overpressure that will launch a can however many feet downrange, to hilarious effect. But, the ATF eventually decided it's a short-barreled rifle. Killjoys. It became illegal to use and you had to turn yours in for a redesigned unit.

Anyway, point of all this is... the ATF can and does change their mind. Just watch, they'll do it this time too with the Obama era "a-ok" on bump stocks. Which of course won't stop anyone from bump firing, since you don't need a bump stock to do so, but, you know... feelings and all that.

That is why I am not working myself into a froth over this.

They were always going to be questionable, and many (myself included) Thought that they were a nice little trap set by the Obama ATF. Buy one, have them declared illegal, and lose the gun.
