Trump visit to UK downgraded to 'working visit' amid threats of mass protests
Donald Trump is set to visit Britain early in 2018 - but for a stripped-down trip that will not include staying with the Queen.
Diplomats are discussing plans for a “working visit” by the US president that will be shorn of the pomp and flummery of a full-blown State Visit.
And instead of a red carpet event to showcase the special relationship, it is likely to form part of a tour of several countries by Mr Trump.
The downgrading of Mr Trump’s first trip as President to the UK follows the huge controversy when Theresa May tried to steal a march on other world leaders by offering a State Visit as guest of the Queen that was intended to take place this summer, breaching a convention that the honour is usually reserved for a president’s second term.
There were threats of boycotts and mass protests when the VIP treatment was announced - with Commons Speaker John Bercow declaring that the President would not be allowed to address the House of Commons.

The younger of my British in-law relatives are totally against Trump. But then they only get the Big Media news.
My mother always taught me to take the High Road. I guess the Brits missed that lesson.
The UK and/or any other country, think they can treat our President badly because they believe the media’s and congress’s bad mouthing to be that of the country’s sentiments. The damage they have done to our United
States has to be shoved down their ugly careers and our land become the greatest again. the curse of obama has to be removed.
I don’t really think Donald cares for the red carpet stuff and all the kavod (honors) and shmavod. So long as he gets a few things accomplished, he’s good.
I think this whole controversy is much ado about nothing. Trump will be very well received in Britain with or without the "red carpet."

Trump owns a perfectly fine property in the UK. The Turnberry resort with a golf course that used to be on the British Open rota until the pussies got their fur up after the 2016 election. It’s just down the road from Glasgow so the big jet could land there and Trump could take a big green whirlybird a few miles southeast to his ocean front property. If any Brits want to meet and greet our president, they can haul their arses over there. As far as addressing Parliament, Trump can have the gear set up in his clubhouse and address every wanker in the Commonwealth live.
Stay home, Mr. President. Britain is lost.
Britain is gone, and good riddance. They refused entry to Michael Savage and Robert Spencer, but willingly import millions of bearded savages, and allow them to rape the women and children.
When the Queen retires, the UK is dead. She is the symbol of the greatness that once was the UK, and now exists only in the imagination of the Brits.
How long before the Union Jack is gone, with the St George Cross, and replaced by a crescent moon?
