Dems rebuff effort urging Sanders, King to switch party

The independent status of Sens. Bernie Sanders and Angus King is just fine with Democrats. Democrats on Friday rejected a resolution that would have urged Vermont's Sanders and Maine's King to switch their party affiliation to Democrat. The two caucus with Democrats. The action came at the Democratic National Committee's meeting.

The idea came from a California Democrat who backed Hillary Clinton over Sanders in the 2016 presidential primaries. DNC member Bob Mulholland says the Democratic Party should be controlled by Democrats.

Longtime DNC leader and Sanders backer James Zobgy led the DNC's Resolutions Committee in turning down Mulholland's proposal. Zogby says taking a shot at Sanders would "feed a Twitter debate that will not be helpful in bringing together" voters on the left.

Why is every fake independent in D.C. just a de facto Democrat?

He is too busy living the life of the rich and famous, replete with 3 homes, including a $600K summer home.

Must be nice.

Sounds like their afraid that those trouble makers might just form a Socialist party and split the dems?

Is "caucusing with" like a "no compete" clause or something?

Can the Dems come and drag McCain away too please?

They are democrats, but vanity leads them to putting an “I” after their names.

Could work to our advantage in Maine were a “real” democrat will run against King.

“Could work to our advantage in Maine were a “real” democrat will run against King.”

Did you mean that it could help us in Maine “were a real Democrat to run against King,” or that it could help us “in Maine, where a real Democrat will run against King”? I hope that you meant the latter, but I don’t think that we know for sure whether King will try to have his cake and eat it too by running for (and presumably winning) the RAT primary but then quitting the party and running as an Independent in the general (which is what Bernie Sanders did in Vermont in 2012, against virtually no opposition in the RAT primary), or if the RATs will run a sacrificial lamb who won’t campaign against King and will try to help King win. We certainly need for Maine to get rid of that stupid “instant run-off” amendment before November 2018.

I’m unclear what’s going on with the instant runoff voting, here’s the latest article

https://bangordailynews.com/2017/10/17/news/maine-lawmakers-at-odds-over-future-of-ranked-choice-voting/

In Alaska a court has ruled that “Independent” Governor Bill Walker can run in the rat primary if he wishes.
