The Pentagon says the country should stick with mandatory registration for a military draft, and it advocates a requirement for women to sign up for the first time in the nation’s history.
The recommendations are contained in a Defense Department report to Congress that serves as a starting point for a commission examining military, national and public service.
Congress ordered the Pentagon report, and the office of the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness completed it in the early months of the Trump administration.
Currently, only male citizens and residents age 18-25 are required to register, for a pace of about 2 million each year.
Women, whom the government has never ordered to sign up, would add 11 million to the Selective Service System database “in short order,” the report says.
President Carter restarted draft registration in 1980 as a message to Soviet leaders. Congress exempted women because they did not perform combat.
But today women fly combat aircraft, serve on combat ships and are in the early stages of competing for direct ground combat jobs such as infantry and special operations.
“It appears that, for the most part, expanding registration for the draft to include women would enhance further the benefits presently associated with the Selective Service System,” the Pentagon report states.
A gender-neutral registration, the report says, “would convey the added benefit of promoting fairness and equity not previously possible in the process and would comport the military Selective Service System with our nation’s touchstone values of fair and equitable treatment, and equality of opportunity.”

In 2004 Democrats were pushing to bring back the draft and they were blaming it on Boosh as was the media even though the only legislation in the House and Senate was authored and supported by Democrats who didn’t even want to vote for their own bill.

Maybe we should just pay our armed forces enough and continue with a volunteer army.
The latest figures were that only a small fraction of young Americans were capable of passing the physical in any case. This is a “sounds good” idea that would cause much disruption, cost lots of $ and not result in an improvement of the cohesiveness or preparedness of the armed forces.
Just because a small % of women volunteer doen’t mean that most women would be able or willing to serve. Easy for men & women past the age of the draft to think this is a good idea, they don’t have to go.
Women will not be equal until they register for the draft too.

Also, the majority of draft age US men don't even qualify to serve now.
Don’t assume that the Pentagon and Republican and Democrat lawyers in the House of Representatives simply want to draft working class women to fill the ranks and fight foreign enemies.
Ask yourself about what they’re really wanting. Are they seeking a reaction or compromise, perhaps? Or maybe they’d simply like to have millions of common, well built, taller and more handsome male suitors for their few daughters, after common women are spoiled and barren. Because you know that the path of drafting women leads to unprecedented numbers of forced abortions in a world war.
Or maybe the effeminate political/regulator folks are simply believing that drafting women would somehow guarantee that no war would happen, thus keeping their investment markets more stable.
This is the same Pentagon that was using the SPLC as a resource for Muslim interactions?
Equal treatment does not equal equality. It actually breeds inequality.

That’s a pretty great plan to end the draft, IMO.
Oh, hell, no! First of all there shouldn’t be a draft for anyone. Second, if they try to draft my granddaughter, I’m taking her out of the country. Let the hairy-legged feminists and dykes sign up if they think they are no different from men.
