Basketball coaching hopeful was denied a job. She says it’s because she’s no longer gay.

Camille LeNoir thought she’d landed a dream job last year, an entryway into the competitive world of coaching college basketball.

She was a former player herself, having starred at the University of Southern California. The WNBA’s Washington Mystics made her a second-round draft pick and she played the game professionally overseas. But since her playing days ended, LeNoir had focused on working with young players. She was excited when her former college coach offered her an assistant position on his staff at New Mexico State University.

She accepted the job, but two days before she was to board a plane for New Mexico, LeNoir’s phone rang. The Aggies’ coach, Mark Trakh, had watched an online video posted in 2011 in which LeNoir discussed her playing career, her religious faith and her sexuality.

For most of her basketball career, LeNoir identified as gay. Now she’s not. In fact, in the video, she said homosexuality was “wrong” and “not worth losing your soul over.”

Trakh retracted the job offer, LeNoir said, and advised her to remove the video if she ever wanted to work in college basketball. LeNoir said she was devastated. She felt she could be an effective coach regardless of what she’d said in that video. And besides, LeNoir figured, hadn’t she already accepted the position?

Read the comments at the end of the article. Apparently (according to the amateur commentators) if you do anything other than express 100% endorsement of sodomy, it's hate speech.

I’m pretty sure she is still gay, just not a ‘practicing gay’. I

Read it earlier. This is the result of humanism. We are here:Francis A. Schaeffer has argued, “If there are no absolutes by which to judge society, then society is absolute.” Francis Schaeffer, How Shall We Then Live? (Old Tappan NJ: Fleming H Revell Company, 1976), p. 224.

If there’s any good advice that I can give young people today, it would be to NOT bare your soul (or anything else you might think it would be ‘cool’ to bare) - on the Internet/Facebook/Twitter.

She probably never was gay, but simply succumbed to peer pressure.

There is an expression on college campuses and from what I can tell applies somewhat more to female athletes. LUG:
Lesbian Until Graduation.

From what I’ve seen/heard, this is the case. Either they think it’s ‘cool’ and the thing to do/claim; or they’re pressured into proclaiming it, whether it’s true or not; or they are harassed because they’re straight.

Trakh retracted the job offer, LeNoir said, and advised her to remove the video if she ever wanted to work in college basketball.

she said homosexuality was “wrong” and “not worth losing your soul over.”

Rule number one: Don’t bare your soul on social media.

She lost the job because she is a professing Christian who believes in Christian values.

She lost the job because she is not the modern “Who am I to judge?’ Christian.

Christians are now social outcaste. A strange turn of events in a nation founded by Christians which at the time of the founding nearly all of the original 13 states had state religions.

I think you are right-it is a combination of “being cool”
and peer pressure.

About 10 years ago, groups within colleges really began pushing students to file sexual harassment charges against faculty and coaches. One of the first cases, a straight
female athlete brought formal charges of sexual harassment
against her coach. The left wing groups cheered until they found that the coach was a female and gay.

I wonder if there’s a lawsuit in this - if she has proof that she was offered and accepted the job, and that she was later rejected purely because of her sexual orientation -

That’s ‘discrimination’.

It seems like this might be a useful one, if the young woman is honest.

LeNoir has filed a federal lawsuit charging New Mexico State with discrimination. She says the Aggies' head coach, Mark Trukh, offered her an assistant coaching position but later revoked the offer.

From the article.

Your post illustrates the confusion between the idea of “gay” as an integral, even inborn, characteristic of a person, and “gay” as a behavior descriptor, “This person has a sexual attraction for or has sex with people of the same sex.”

Which is it?

The lawsuit GUARANTEES she won’t ever get a job.
