Carroll: Guadagno can Win, but if Murphy Beats Her, His Smile will Disappear
Insider NJ ^ | November 2, 2017 | Insider NJ

As the state staggers toward Election Day on Tuesday, Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-25) opined on the state’s broken condition, the prospects of the next chief executive, and what he insists is the jarring disconnect of a liberal message in New Jersey contributing to a suburban chilling effect.

The veteran movement conservative lawmaker acknowledged that he thinks the race between Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican Kim Guadagno is tightening, and as Democrats brace for what one source said will undoubtedly be a late Republican Governors Association (RGA) Willie Horton Hail Mary on sanctuary cities, Carroll said the cycle’s enduring issue is taxes. The contest feels closer than the polls reflect, in his opinion, because he says he thinks Guadagno has better corralled the urgency of the taxes issue.

A Republican winning the governor’s race in NJ? Anything is possible but the demographics make it a tall order.

Big liberal cities outvote the state’s rural areas and small towns.

After two terms of Christie, another GOP win is unlikely.

A win in Virginia will be a superior night. A win in New Jersey will be an earthquake of goodness. If we lose both, I will be very depressed. There is no reason for us to lose Virginia during an off off year. Democrats are not going to show up in numbers from 2014 even much less then in 2016.

Let’s hope Ds scream their heads off next Tuesday and stay away from the polls entirely but I wouldn’t count on it.

A close loss would be a moral victory; a win in VA would give GOP tailwinds heading into the 2018 mid-terms.

Unless we are pitting solid conservatives against the left, these elections should not be considered bell cows.

That’s what the Hispanic pickup truck ad was supposed to be - motivation. It was a reprise of the James Byrd dragging ad. Here’s hoping they blew their wad.

All they offer is hate Trump.

They want to make it a referendum on the President, so this is a test run for their impeachment message in 2018.

To do that, they need to take back the House and Senate.

I hope so much. I know that some here are saying that Gillespie is a RINO....so what. I don’t believe in losing elections at the general. I’d be more concerned maybe if he was running for Senate and being a RINO....we do have too many of those. I just think if we lose Virginia, we will not hear the end of it (even thought it is Dem to Dem win) and that will give motivation for Dems going into 18.

Their big message in Clifton is posting Dump Trump signs.

All local issues are really local.

People can spin it however they want. On Wednesday, we’ll be able to see whether the fake news media’s war on Trump succeeded.

That’s what I mean. They have no positive message.

Why do you think lib billionaire Tom Steyer has been starring in an impeachment commercial?

They can’t argue with Trump so they want to run him out of town on the rails.

That’s their mid-term message.

A Dem loss would be a devastating blow to Dem morale.
I think that’s much more important then worrying about Gillespie being a RINO. He’s a boring, not a particularly politically inspiring RINO. Va governor is likely his terminal political job. If he goes on and tries for senator, I doubt if he can get the nomination. If he does nd a miracle happens where he knocks off Kaine or Warner. Then great, but not going to happen. MacAwful will probably do that.

Why do you state the conventional wisdom when there has just been a two term GOP governor?

An R winning in NJ..following a R who isn’t all that popular? If R’s win NJ that’s beyond seismic.

Because a party seldom wins a third term and Christie is unpopular in NJ.

Plus we need a friendly governor for 2020.

VA was likely stolen by fraud McAuliffe abetted.

Close losses piss me off, cause if things were slightly different they could have been wins.

I don’t see how Kim G can win in NJ, she has a big fat loadstone around her neck. Holding an open governorship when the outgoing Governor is toxic is hard, especially in a state that leans the other way. Polling is not close

The rat won in LA in part because Jindal was unpopular.

We need to win in VA.

Jindal’s influence wasn’t nearly as significant as the fact that the RINO Establishment totally f’d over Sen. Vitter and gave overt help to Edwards.

I’ve lived in Jersey all my life. Let me tell you something, the great majority of the voters of this state are brain dead democrats who will vote for Murphy because he’s promised them free stuff and he’ll ‘’tax the rich’’.
