The Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples will run for re-election in 2018.
An attorney for Kim Davis confirmed she will seek a second term. It's the first chance Rowan County voters will get to have a say in the controversy that dominated national news in 2015.
Davis stopped issuing marriage licenses following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Five couples sued her, and a judge ordered her to issue the licenses. Davis refused and spent five days in jail. The state legislature later changed the law so county clerks did not have to sign their name on marriage licenses.
Davis switched parties to become a Republican shortly after the controversy erupted.
Kim Davis is a gutsy lady. Would vote for you if I lived there.
I’ll contribute to her campaign fund. I was especially impressed when Pope Francis met with her—and then all his gay leftist advisors decided to trash her in the same vicious terms the media used. As far as this Catholic is concerned, there was a saint in that story, and she was not even Catholic.
She and her mother have been living very nicely in this position. Pure politics.
She should run to primary McConnell.
Talk about MSM slanting a headline. How about “Traditional values clerk to seek re-election” instead.
Should read “Pro-Heterosexual straight Female”
Shoot higher. Run for Senate.
File this under, how to win a national congressional seat. Work the local state. Make one big move, that would sure be quoted well at a Trump rally. Take over the Rino seat you deserve.
McConnell would eat her alive and we all know it.
At least her position seems consistent, which is more than can be said for a lot of politicians.
The Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples will run for re-election in 2018
You mean: The Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue court mandated ‘marriage licenses’, which was illegal per State Law at the time, to same-sex couples will run for re-election in 2018.
Thank you for saying so well what I wanted to say. I wonder how many states actually changed their marriage laws to comply with an unconstitutional “mandate” from a few dingbats on SCOTUS.
