GOP Reps. Frank LoBiondo and Ted Poe announced Tuesday that they will retire at the end of their terms, adding to the list of Republican lawmakers bowing out after 2018.

Poe, R-Texas, announced late Tuesday that he will not run for reelection in the midterms next fall, saying he is “looking forward” to spending more time in his district and with his family

“looking forward” to spending more time in his district and with his family

The old standby. As good an excuse as any, but not real creative.

Poe has dropped from great to zero. No idea why. Lobiondo has dropped slightly from crappy to still crappy. http://acuratings.conservative.org/acu-federal-legislative-ratings/?year1=2016&chamber=11&state1=0&sortable=4

I think they just got sick and tired of not being able to get anything done.

Sam Johnson (far north Dallas and suburbs) is 87, and he hasn’t been the same since his wife died. A solid conservative, but it’s time for him to retire. United Methodist.

Hensarling (east Dallas and suburbs) is a Pence buddy and a Phil Gramm protege. Episcopalian.

Poe is from Houston and I know nothing about him. He’s Church of Christ.

LoBiondo is 71 and is being forced out of his committee leadership positions because of GOP term limit rules. He’s one of those guys who has spent 22 years in Congress without making much of a mark. His “conservative” ratings were average but he always managed to vote on the wrong side of very important bills — like the Obamacare repeal, for example.

Ted Poe was a no-nonsense judge who didn’t like criminals and he usually handed out some pretty creative sentences.

When elected he started out as a strong conservative, but has had a few questionable stances in recent years. I’m not sure I would classify him as a RINO but he has lost some of his conservative staunchness. He has always been pro 2A and pro-life.

I would still take him over a true RINO or a Democrat. I think all-in-all it would be considered a loss by most conservatives.

The district he represents votes Republican, so I would think he could be replaced by another. However, there are many moving here from other states that are liberal, so there might be a fight to keep the seat.

LoBiondo has to leave because people were getting tired of his BS. He rarely did anything except promote the Coast Guard Base in Cape May. He has his own problems and they could come to a head at any time. These problems are personal and of his own making.

It seems Poe has a serious health issue:

“With fans on both sides of the aisle, that affection came to light in 2016, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Colleagues like U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Sugar Land, reacted to the news by wearing orange “Team Poe” wristbands. Even Democrats were known to check in with concern about his health.”

Ted Poe was an amazin Judge. It was said that at a sentencing hearing the convicted asked when his first parole hearing would be granted. Ted told the convicted that his parole board hasn’t even been born yet and continued to sentence him to many many years

Poe has had cancer. He’s not like a certain senator who willl hold on to power till they carry him out feet first. He says he wants to spend more time with his family and I can respect his decision. His seat should be a safe one for Republicans. I don’t think he intended to make DC his permanent home even before his sickness.
