Christie was a great governor for 3-4 years. He’s been mailing it in since he was re-elected in 2013. I’ve always believed that he saw this job as a stepping-stone to a U.S. Attorney General nomination in 2012 or 2016.
“...Christie was a great governor for 3-4 years....”
I’ll respectfully disagree. For gun owners in NJ, he COULD have been a great governor if he’d have even made an ATTEMPT to roll back some of the egregious infringements on the Citizens 2nd Amendment right. He did nothing to help the honest citizens who want to be able to carry for self-defense, to just BUY a firearm without a damned permission slip, etc.
I initially thought he’d be a good win for NJ, but that turned out not to be the case. Major disappointment, and just another RINO. And the Bridgegate thing gave the Dems tons of ammo to shove up his rear. Bad optics, for sure.
Agree with you on the stepping-stone thing.
The last time New Jersey had a conservative governor was 1944. Of all the governors since -- it's been a pretty terrible bunch -- Christie has been one of the better ones.
He might have done something for the Republican brand in the state. Instead, he set his sights on higher office. Screw the Republican party.
I don't think Christie was stupid enough to order Bridgegate himself, but he most certainly was stupid enough to hire the idiots who thought that Bridgegate was a smart idea.
Between that and Trump, it just wasn't winnable this year. Giordano did better than I thought she'd do.
