Commentary: How Massachusetts Can Counteract Trump's Anti-Climate Policy
WBUR - NPR Boston ^ | November 8, 2017 | by Abby Maxman

Posted on 11/08/2017 7:46:59 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

Earlier this year, President Trump announced his intent to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement. However, we, the citizens and taxpayers of Massachusetts, have the opportunity to take action and make a difference in the lives of those most vulnerable to climate change.

Last week, I testified in favor of Senate Bill 2056, and I urged our lawmakers to pass it. The bill would create a voluntary check-off option for residents to donate money on their tax return to the Least Developed Countries Fund. This special United Nations fund is singularly focused on helping the people and communities who are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

According to the World Bank, without adequate investments in climate adaption efforts, an additional 100 million people could be living in extreme poverty by 2030.

Massachusetts already has six check-off options available on the current tax return form. This bill is simply building on existing processes by adding a seventh option, allowing taxpayers to donate a portion — or all — of their refund, or add a donation to their tax due. There are no program or net administrative costs, and individual participation is voluntary. If successful, this bill could also set an example for other states to follow and provide a dependable stream of financing for some of the world’s most vulnerable.

I have spent the past decade living abroad and working in developing counties. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to continue that service and commitment to global citizenry than donating to those most vulnerable to climate change.

“Anti-Climate Policy”

Yes, the world would be totally better without a climate.

As usual, "climate change" is brought on by taxes being to low. The only way to stop "climate change" is to increase the tax rate. Then the planet saving extra taxes help those "global citizens" all around the world.

Sounds legit.

Typical government inefficiency. Massachusetts should cut out the middleman (the fund), and just list the third-world dictators. Pick the dictator you want your money to go to.

Because that’s where the money is going to end up anyway.

Trump wants to eliminate the atmosphere so that there is no climate, you see.

Climate Change is Bullroar!

The entire concept of Climate Change is preposterous and foolishness on display to promote a huge guilt trip on to the public.

It is a SCAM that shows the Epitome of Political Corruption!

From reading this article it appears to have nothing to do with the climate but everything to do with wealth redistribution.

“I am proud to call myself a new Massachusetts resident. I have spent the past decade living abroad and working in developing counties.”

Send her back where she came from.

If every resident of MA donated with the check box on their tax form it would have the same effect a removing one grain of sand from Miami Beach.

This bill is actually an excellent idea as an annual tally of these donations will by proof positive of how many warmists are willing to put their money behind their mouths.

I’m sure that this UN fund makes recipients of the money accountable for how the money is actually spent like the Clinton Foundation does. /sarc

Yes, we are willing to support over population in 3rd world countries. The citizens of these backwards, 100% unemployment, no future countries have nothing better to do than aggressively procreate.

It is the responsibility of the USA to allow this practice to continue.

What about those most helped by climate change? Why do you hate them?

Massachusetts can ban all vehicles and help save the planet.

Also, they can turn off the heat all winter and freeze to death.

They need to stop boring us to death with their talk talk talk and go for it!

>>>The bill would create a voluntary check-off option<<<

If I recall correctly, the MA State Tax Form used to have a line where you could “voluntarily” pay more Taxes to the State.

I believe the choice was the normal 5% Tax Rate or a voluntary 7% Tax Rate.

John Kerry chose the 5% Box.
