Facing facts about Tuesday’s big backlash (NeverTrump Alert)
NY Post ^ | Nov 08, 2017 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 11/08/2017 10:07:06 PM PST by Oshkalaboomboom

President Trump has an approval rating of 38 percent. That’s not good. And when a president’s polls are not good, members of his party tend to suffer when elections roll around. That is what happened Tuesday night in Virginia, New Jersey and in the suburbs of New York City.

Do not fall for efforts made by people on all sides obsessed with slicing and dicing raw voting data to complicate this whole 2017 elections business. You’ll be reading about how maybe it wasn’t all so bad or maybe it was far worse than it looks. Mostly, it’s exactly how it looks, and that is bad for Republicans now and bad for them over the next year.

Actually, one form of needless complication helped make the Democratic landslide in Virginia something of a surprise.

Some pollsters who felt as though they had missed Trump voters in 2016 adjusted aspects of their Virginia polling to try and make sure they had a better picture of the electorate this time. And in so doing, they overcorrected, overestimating the number of GOP voters and undersampling Democrats.

What the results suggest is that it’s highly unlikely Republican candidate Ed Gillespie ever had a prayer. But the 2016 results so freaked out everyone in politics they lost confidence in their ability simply to see things plain.

Trump won the presidency with approval ratings that should’ve finished him. And because that happened, pros figured it might happen again with Republican candidates in the Age of Trump. That’s why as late as Tuesday morning it was almost fashionable among the cognoscenti to think Gillespie would win.

Nope.

Bottom line: Trump is unpopular, and that hurts Republican candidates. Period.

It hurts them because, while polls might tell you Trump has Republicans in his pocket, that’s less meaningful than appears.

Second, the people who don’t like Trump really don’t like Trump.

That would be you, John. And when you really don't like Trump you let results from 2 blue states cloud your judgement. Your hatred blinds you to the fact that flyover country is sick of people like you and the people who think like you. Pretending to support the President just to win an election so you can go backstab him once you're in office isn't going to work any more.

They still don’t get why Trump won.

Good news for us moving to 2020.

The DC Swamp creates from BOTH parties are the ones in jeopardy.

The MSM-Democrats throw everything they have at him, 24x7, for a year and a half, without letup, 98% negative coverage, much of which is garbage made up out of a tissue of lies, and holy jumpin’ catfish, his approval numbers stand at 38%! This is not good!

Trump can just say "I'm not either party, I represent you, the voters."

NYC voted in Decomio before Trump even ran for office and wasn’t going anywhere, Christie killed his collegue with Bridgegate and Gillespie was neverTrump. But these elections were a backlash against Trump? Otay buckwheat.

"President Trump has an approval rating of 38 percent."

Fake News. When you start off with a lie, the rest can be dismissed out of hand.

Based on what evidence? Did you read their source or their survey methods? I’m not saying you are wrong but l can’t find a single poll above 40% ANYWHERE. Not even within Pro Trump areas. While I’m fully supportive of him as are others we cannot continue throwing out the “fake news” or “never Trump” mantras as liberals do with racist this or racist that just because the news may not favor us.

No fear. So they built a club house in their back yard. It changes nothing.

Again I’m trying to find a single poll that shows otherwise from anywhere and from anyone and thus far one does not exist. It’s quite possible the do nothing Congress has impacted and carried his approval levels down as well. That’s not an impossibility

I think this is about “coattails”, as they used to say. As an outsider to begin with, I think it’s easy to see why Trump is shy in this department.

May God Bless America, and may God Bless President Donald Trump. That’s about where I’m at.

I despise this smug GOPe neocon.

But my GOP-majority area was buried with a massive Democrat turnout yesterday. Almost all new voting registrations have been Democrats as well.

In short, their side is at least as riled up as the tea party was in its best years. Unless the intensity on the other side is ratcheted up significantly, there will be a Congressional bloodbath in 2018 (maybe still not enough of the right senate seats up to make for a flip in the senate).

Yeah, Trump is “polarizing”, but this will be due to the Democrat/media/GOPe/Deep State national perfidy.

the district in Virginia that the tranny won, the biggest issue was how best to “unclog” U.S 28 during rush hour...these were tiny local districts in blue states. Look at the millions the dems poured into Georgia for an actual congressional seat, only to fail miserably. See me in a year from now,..man, the medias can really make people pee all over themselves.
