Judge denies release for Cliven Bundy amid courtroom outburst

LAS VEGAS-A judge declined Thursday to release Nevada cattleman Cliven Bundy days before trial, concerned he doesn't recognize federal authority and has a large incentive to flee with at least 80 years in prison hanging over his head if convicted of four of his 16 charges.

US District Judge Gloria M. Navarro also rejected release requests by Ryan Bundy and Ryan Payne and said she would make a decision later on Ammon Bundy.

Bret O. Whipple, the attorney representing the elder Bundy on charges in the 2014 standoff near Bunkerville, urged consideration for the patriarch's age, his failing health and the reduced weight of evidence against him after unsuccessful conspiracy prosecutions against others in the case.

"He refers to himself as an old cow" Whipple said, noting that the 71-year-old Bundy arrived in custody with 20 teeth and now has 10 to 15 teeth left because infections are treated by pulling teeth in jail and not with dental care.

"It's been hard on him and his health has really deteriorated", Whipple said........

The trial starts next Tuesday with Judge Navarro still hearing arguments to release Ammon Bundy on Monday.

Trial observers John Lamb and Kelli Stewart noted in a video posted last night that Sharee Cox started to make the wrong body language for federal marshals as her father was denied release by Judge Navarro.

They grabbed her and as she was moved out she spoke out calling Judge Navarro "a liar" among other things. Navarro called her father Cliven a threat to federal officers among other things convicting him before the trial with her words.

The judge in this case appears to be particularly nasty, and not at all an independent arbiter of facts. It also appears, the Marshall’s are operating in a particularly thuggish manner, both in Oregon, against the innocent, and now in NV.

Didn’t they attack and taser the defense attorney during his arguments to the judge?

Were that my court room, those Marshalls would have found themselves in a jail cell immediately.

The judge is riding on her judicial immunity. She should be stripped of immunity, put on trial for aiding and abetting a malicious prosecution, and serve at least as much time, under the same conditions, as Bundy. And lose 10 teeth in the process. And be subject a civil suit to garnish her retirement income.

The Judge is a nasty woman. These men are political prisoners and they have been beaten and abused.

Ammon’s attorney was beaten down and tazed at the end of the last trial.

The authorities don’t like it when we the people question their thuggish tactics.

Well he is a flight risk, but you think they’d at least give him decent dental care while they’re holding him.

After the defendants were exonerated the Marshals decided the defense attorney we just a little too forceful in his plea to have Ammon Bundy released from custody, so they jumped him. There were at least four of them, maybe more, I don’t remember, but enough to make me wonder just whose’s courtroom this was.

Well he is a flight risk,

Huh? That should read IMHO he is a flight risk.

Just where in the Hell he is now living in do you think he would go? Anything would be an improvement and I suggest he would not run out on family and would go right to work on the ranch he was attempting to save when all this started with the Standoff. A very safe standoff, but an ego slap to Federal authorities, that apparently just can’t go unpunished, so give me two years of incarceration without trial, and a hellish imprisonment to go along with it and the feds have not begun to fight. Meanwhile the Elder Bundy and the entire family are given the full force of Federal injustice. And that following exoneration in the Oregon trial for Ammon at any rate.

Back to his ranch, surround himself with a couple of hundred armed supporters, and sit there.

I would agree with his returning to his ranch. The rest of your comment is pure speculation and frankly, if the government thought he would surround himself with armed supporters they should be all for the release. What better way to make the point they have so far been unable to make, and to give themselves just the excuse they need for armed intervention.

They would have to go in and dig him out. Why take the chance when they can just leave his butt in jail?

...because infections are treated by pulling teeth in jail and not with dental care.

Just one of many reasons he should have been granted bail a long time ago.

“We can see how the justice system works...”

Well, right there are your first two mistakes:
#1 — It ain’t a “justice system”; it’s a “legal system” and barely that. Justice comes from God, alone, and where He ain’t; it ain’t neither.

#2 — Because it is not a “justice system” it produces actual justice only on such occasions as justice and raw, Pharisaic legality happen to coincide, which is not a description of a system that “works.”

“...the letter [of the Law] kills, but the Spirit [of God] gives life.”
— II Cor. 3:6

When God’s not in it; it can only produce death and destruction. Don’t expect more.
