Merry Christmas, ESPN! Here are your layoffs…

ESPN is learning a hard lesson about politics after needlessly dragging itself into the fray: you can’t please everyone. If the network panders to one side of the political aisle, it alienates the other half of its viewership.

The backlash over politicized sports coverage has ESPN reeling. The network is finding itself forced to layoff 100 employees, the Hollywood Reporter found.

What makes this worst for the heads of the Disney-owned company is that the layoffs come after they delivered a mass firing of 300 employees–five percent of the ESPN workforce–in 2015.

The now-frequent large-scale personnel cuts are indicative of internal problems and a struggle to retain its audience.

ESPN has gone from having 100 million subscribers in 2011 to just 87 million today. The drop in subscribers has happened even as the network has taken initiatives to remain relevant, including striking a $1.4 billion-a-year NBA contract.

A helpful hint to ESPN for remaining employees: ditch the leftist politics and several million Americans might start watching your “sports” network again.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Losers...

Load up your sports coverage with Black Lives Matter supporters and Whites don’t watch. It doesn’t take much in the way of brains to figure that out. Disney belongs on the growing trash heap of Leftist failures.

Completely calculable, entirely avoidable, the knotheads knew that this was the inevitable consequence of insulting their audience but persisted anyway.

But then, the ones who made the stuck~on~stupid decisions are probably not the ones affected by the cuts.

I was at Costco the other day and the Direct TV salesman offered a package without ESPN! Lol, you still have to pay for the service in the contract, but it won’t show up on your tv schedule. That’s some deal right there.

Just attempting to match the demographics of the audience in the photo.

This may limit the size of the audience.

The liberal agenda was the icing on the cake. ESPN also played to the lowest common denominator and became unwatchable with their promotion of in-house events. Other than maybe a live sports event, there is little reason to follow ESPN in the day of the internet where one can pick and chose what to follow.

Some of us got turned off to the first-name identities that ESPN promoted with certain athletes. Are there staff meetings that certain players get called by their first names? Fans do that, not supposed professional unbiased journalists. Then again, unbiased and ESPN are infrequently equated.

The hosts were oftentimes unbearable and that includes radio. Even though I rarely listen to sports radio, there were times when I was in settings in which radio was played. I recall one phone call to ESPN radio maybe 12 years ago in which someone wanted to talk about a Stanley Cup Finals between Edmonton and Carolina and the host said “No offense, but when I think of hockey I think of some guy named Sven living in Minnesota in his parent’s basement.” Um, really?! And would the host have said something similarly derogatory about other sports’ fans and the obvious ethnic connection?

That of course is one small indicator but in a sense, it is ESPN. Promote what ESPN wants to dictate to you, and ridicule or avoid all else.

When I canceled my cable TV package, the cable rep said to me “But you won’t get channels such as ESPN.” My answer was “Exactly!”

Never watch ESPN, but, from what I read here, I would say that they have been veering to the left for a long, long time.

Any business that chooses a political side alienates a portion of their potential consumer base. Before making that decision, they need to decide if they’re in business to make money or make political statements because it’s an either/or choice.

Maybe in the past they could say they didn’t have any way to determine how much money they’d lose by picking sides. At this point they should be able to figure out with reasonable certainty how much they can expect to lose by choosing political sides.

The fact that they didn’t take that into account just goes to show how poisoning Leftists politics can be.

ESPN hasn’t learned any lesson. Case in point, they fired all their non-political hockey reporters and just hired a SJW blogger to replace them. They’re doubling down on stupid.

A couple of years ago I had subscription to ESPN’s magazine that I got for turning in a few old frequent flyer miles. But it was just all-queer, all-the-time so I just started throwing them in the trash without even looking at them.

If you are referring to BOB Costas, he works for NBC, not ESPN . . .

The three people in your picture are Tony Kornheiser, Mike Tirico and Joe Theismann.

Kevin Costner in Bull Durham: “God, I hate it when you get the words wrong” :)

I was at the Edmonton/Carolina Cup Series, in Raleigh.

Watched the Canes win, then went out drinking beer with as many Oilers as Canes fans. The folks from Edmonton were nice people, lots of fun. It was a great series, and the sportsmanship on both sides was great.

No one there named "Sven", though. Dunno if any of them lived in their parents' basements. ESPN hosts can KMA.

ESPN is learning a hard lesson about politics after needlessly dragging itself into the fray:

There's a reason previous, non-woke generations didn't drag politics and religion into every conversation - and that reason was common sense. Today's SJWs are as political as Chinese kids during the Cultural Revolution, and as dangerous.

The unfortunate thing is Jemele Hill isn’t going anywhere. i know a number of lower level ESPN staffers who may be on the chopping block. They are conservative, and even have a Bible study on the ESPN campus every week. So celebrate if you wish but know that it’s probably not those who we’d like to see go who will get chopped.
