As North Korean threat grows, Hawaii prepares for nuclear attack

For decades, the wail of the nuclear bomb warning siren was ubiquitous in U.S. cities. Public service commercials drilled the "duck and cover" mantra into the minds of Americans, and the possibility of a Soviet attack was always around the corner.

But after the Cold War, most places abandoned their sirens. Fears of terrorism grew more urgent and, for many younger Americans, being on notice for nuclear war became a relic of the past.

That's no longer the case in Hawaii.

Amid increasing North Korean threats against the U.S., Hawaii has launched the most aggressive effort in the country to prepare for attack. TV commercials warn the state's 1.4 million residents to "get inside, stay inside" if a bomb drops. State officials are holding online forums and flying between islands for town halls to field questions from residents.

On Dec. 1, the nuclear attack warning siren will be heard in the state for the first time in more than three decades.

They found a way to blame Trump for this yet?

If North Korea ever hit Hawaii it’d be because they were aiming for Guam or Spokane.

The Liberal/ Marxist “Chicken Littles” in Hawaii are making sure that a crisis doesn’t go to waste.

All those socialists are eminently expendable.

What is it about islands with zero industry, and planetary worth, (Hawaii, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti...), that provokes the idea that communism works?

Why would a communist state attack another communist state?

Prepare by doing what? Writing a will seems to be about all one could do.

Hawaii has rejected the Commander In Chief. They have to work this one out on their own.

OR at least let them negotiate with the Koreans for a surrender.

IF they want to deny the President, let them do their own by listening to the mouse that roared. An advance surrender is appropriate.
Then all of NoKo can move in and take over all the real estate and enjoy the lifestyles of the rich and famous.... like what islam has done over the last 1400 years. If you can’t build it, try to steal it from others.

Here is an easy target for them. Hawaii wants to reject the US of A. Maybe the two have something in common...

“TV commercials warn the state’s 1.4 million residents to “get inside, stay inside” if a bomb drops.”

Then what?

Not going to click on LAT for anything, but did they bother to note that sirens are tested here the first of every month? This is just a new tone from what has been going on for years.

I lived on off base housing as a kid in Pearl Harbor. We had a bomb shelter in the backyard. I always thought it was so cool. It as shaped like a Quonset hut, a cement building that was had a rounded roof that was one in the same with the sides. Never could break in though. I don’t know if it is still there. There were only a few blocks with people living in the Navy quadro-pexes. The surrounding neighborhood was deserted buildings and the jungle creeping in. Great place to be a kid and explore.

Time for HI to develop their own oil industry so that it can produce the fuel for our Pacific fleet.

The mouse that roared backfired on them and didn't go off as planned. The same result would for NK, as they want concessions from America. Gaining control of Hawaii would be useless to them, as they are depend for just about everything. At the same token it would prove to be harmless for America

Very funny movie, and one of my favorites. 8>)

NKorea, Hawaii to start testing ‘attack warning’ siren

Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL, Thursday, November 9, 2017

Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - Starting Dec. 1, you’ll hear two sirens being tested monthly in Hawaii.

The tsunami warning siren will sound first with a steady tone, followed by the “attack warning” siren, which plays a wavering tone.

The testing comes amid rising tensions with North Korea, and as the state tries to better prepare residents for the improbable but not impossible threat of a nuclear attack from the rogue nation. . . .
