Performance artist Marina Abramovic has backed out of her grandiose plans for her upstate arts institute and questions loom over what happened to the $2.2 million she raised over four years for the project, including donations from the likes of Jay-Z and nearly 5,000 donors in a Kickstarter campaign.
The edgy artist, who became world famous for staring down people in her blockbuster 2010 MOMA show, The Artist is Present, touted her multi-million dollar Marina Abramovic Institute for the Preservation of Performance Art as a place for artists to conduct grand experiments

Was going to say I'd never heard of her if you hadn't posted that. That money went the same way as Podesta's and Hellary's fundraising.

I always love how NYC papers call a place like Hudson ‘Upstate’ . . . to them Rye and Port Chester are probably upstate too . . . it’s barely north of the Connecticut-Massachusetts border!
Syracuse is upstate, Rochester is, etc. Not Hudson!

The act of spirit cooking involves Abramović using pig’s blood as a way of connecting with the spiritual world, to cook up thoughts rather than food. A video of the practice shows her writing various statements with the blood, such as “with a sharp knife cut deeply into your middle finger eat the pain”.
Abramović is known, and lauded, for work that focuses on pain, blood and the relationship between the performer and the audience. Her work has won many awards, including the Golden Lion at Venice.

She also claimed that those referring to her body of work as satanic are mistaken. “My work is really more about spirituality and not anything else,” she said. “I’ve been doing my work for so long, and this is a misunderstanding. It’s absolutely outrageous and ridiculous … I mean, this world is really turning to hell. I am completely amazed, something is taken out of context for the purpose of winning. We are living in such a strange world.”

Whatever, just look at the garbage she calls ‘art’ - and no, it’s not subjective to the viewer, some things just are what they are.
I had a great-aunt who lived in Connecticut who had relatives in Bronxville, NY. She described them as living in Upstate. Bronxville is in southern Westchester Co., about 5 miles north of the Bronx.
