Catch-and-release of illegals restarted in Texas, border patrol agents say
Washington Times ^ | 11/16/17 | Stephen Dinan

The Trump administration reinstated a de facto catch-and-release policy for illegal immigrants nabbed crossing the border in Texas, with Border Patrol agents being told Wednesday not to even bother turning them over for speedy deportation because there was no bed space, a top agent said.

The problem, said Brandon Judd, an agent and president of the National Border Patrol Council, is that illegal immigration has surged once again after dipping during the early months of President Trump’s tenure.

That has left the deportation agency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, struggling to find beds to hold the illegal immigrants. As a result, Border Patrol agents who bring apprehended people to ICE are turned away.

“We’re going to have to release them out our front door,” Mr. Judd said. “Even if we try to turn them over to them, they’re just not going to take them.”

He said ICE’s San Antonio office, which handles most of the traffic from the Texas border, said it would have to refuse to take any family units the Border Patrol tries to turn over and will soon reject even non-family migrants.

Later Wednesday, Mr. Judd said, ICE’s El Paso office told agents it also was at capacity and was refusing family units.

In other words, government incompetence catching up with itself.

(Part of) the solution: pull a ton of old GP-large tents out from war reserve material (WRM) and set up Phoenix-style tent cities.

Why do they need beds ? Take ‘em back across the border and dump them.

Misleading title:

“Catch-and-release of illegals restarted in Texas, border patrol agents say”

Walking back the premise:

“The Trump administration reinstated a de facto catch-and-release policy “

“That has left the deportation agency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, struggling to find beds to hold the illegal immigrants. As a result, Border Patrol agents who bring apprehended people to ICE are turned away. “

So for those of that can read, the problem is that there isnt enough space to hold these people so they can get tossed back.

How do you get that? Well, NeverTrump troll, you get your buddies in Congress to get off their ass and spend the cash for that. Which is part of their jobs, instead of attacking senate candidates.

But since NeverTrump NEVER touches their GOPe allies, they run to FR and scream this:

“Wow, is this for the next 3 years? How much of that promised wall is complete? This is a big promise broken.”

Thinking we actually buy you brand of BS any more than the MSM.

Did they have bed space while working their way illegally across our border? I think not. Provide them with baloney sandwiches three times a day, all the water they can drink, a restroom and a bare concrete floor to stand, sit or sleep on. This is better than our brave troops in Irag and Afgan get because no one is apt to be shooting at the illegals.

We can’t keep the captured illegal aliens because we don’t have enough space. What do we do to keep the new detainees if the space we have isn’t adequate?

One way is we free up that occupied space.

How do you do that? By processing the illegals faster.

How do you do that? By having more immigration judges. It was on this forum yesterday that Trump was appointing hundreds of new immigration judges.

50 New Immigration Judges on Duty, and 370 More Coming.

If they are caught crossing the border (committing an act of war against these United States) then why not just shoot them?

Lots of buzzards down in Texas need to eat too!

They have prototypes built. They’re being tested and then it will move forward. This is NOT a campaign promise broken. I guess you’d prefer they just throw up some chain link and be done?

Lol.. in ten months.. we have a prototype. What are we Bolivia? Now the administration is re-instating catch and release due to a bed shortage.. can’t do that either?
These two things are either impotency or incompetency or both.
Mathematically, looks like amnesty to me.

"spend the cash for that"

The price keeps going up. And up. And up. And up.

The "enforcement only" method of immigration reform keeps getting more and more expensive and people like you keep saying Spend more! Spend more! Spend More!

It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to enact reform legislation.

That’s what I don’t get either. These towns are ON THE BORDER! No reason to keep them. Do a quick processing to get their deportation records, turn them around, and give them a push. Government makes everything easy and rational hard and irrational.

Why not just turn them around and send them back immediately? No sandwich and no bed.

Border states waste taxpayer dollars and manpower to rescue illegals lost and dying in the desert. Perhaps if they couldn’t count on US assistance, a much higher risk of death from the elements while crossing would deter many more of them.
