"There is even more to the story: CDC data also show that within our nations cities, black Americans are, on average, eight times more likely to be killed by firearms than those who are white. The rate of death by gun homicide for black people exceeds those among whites in all 50 states, but there is tremendous variation in the magnitude of this disparity.
In 2015, a black person living in Wisconsin was 26 times more likely to be fatally shot than a white person in Wisconsin. At the same time, a black person in Arizona was only 3.2 times more likely than a white person to be killed by a gun.
The combination of being black and living in an urban area is even more deadly. In 2015, the black homicide rate for urban areas in Missouri was higher than the total death rate from any cause in New York state.
These differences across states occur primarily because the gap between levels of disadvantage among white and black Americans differs sharply by state. For example, Wisconsin the state with the highest disparity between black and white firearm homicide rates has the second-highest gap of any state between black and white incarceration rates, and the second-highest gap between black and white unemployment rates. Racial disparities in advantage translate into racial disparities in firearm violence victimization."

I knew it. Guns are racist too.
What you never see in these proggie pieces: numbers on who is doing the shooting.
Correlation doesn’t equal causation...
IQ and inability to control ones impulses play a major part in the problem as well.
Maybe they should just stop shooting each other.
The answer is simple: Move to Arizona.
>>These differences across states occur primarily because the gap between levels of disadvantage among white and black Americans differs sharply by state.
Let’s see this compared to single motherhood stats.
The only information that counts is normalized for race, gender, and income. Absolute data like this just shows bias.
There seems to be a mystery unidentified assailant here. Some unnamed attacker ruthlessly preying on urban blacks. The article stops just short of blaming racist white society for the fact that these people are 25 more times likely to shoot you as a white person you may encounter. Take responsibility, damnit!
But you will not hear them want to discuss the intransigent causes of such violence: the culture of violence in rap music, drug and alcohol abuse, fatherless children, and other related things helping to perpetuate the black on black violent crime problem.
The authors are also (likely in an inadvertent manner) contradicting a popular argument from the Canadian Coalition for Gun Control up here in that stricter gun control laws accompanied by lower homicide rates make Canada distinct from the United States. When in reality, taking out black on black violent crime likely results in U.S. states that immediately border Canada (like Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, and Washington) having such rates that have very little or no difference to the neighbouring Canadian province(s).
Baltimore Mayor Pugh says crime ‘out of control,’ orders agencies to meet with police every morning
Another example of returning to your comfort zone, they’re right at home. We left baltimore for the eastern shore of Md 5 years ago, but like locust it’s here now, moving to Indiana before long.
—yes—and furthermore, if one takes out the black homicide figures from the overall U.S. homicide rate , we “gun nutty “ U.S. residents overall have homicide rates comparable to any number of the European paradises with “ strict” gun control-—
The urban murder problem is not one caused largely by innocent people dying. It is primarily thugs killing thugs.
This statement is equating incarceration and gun violence with economic opportunity.
How much of this violence is caused by financial envy ?
drug related and gang/ ethnic/ tribal violence ?
There is too much missing information to draw a conclusion, except that the researchers are all from Boston Mass.,
and Anita Knopov writes for Salon, and this article comes from 11/14/17 issue of Salon.com .
Enough said when you know the sources !
