I just have a hard time believing that the Clintons are completely finished.

Hitlery will run again because she feels it is her destiny to rule. Why else do you think she had that ghostwriter write “What happened” and why she is mouthing off every chance she gets. I think Democraps will try to prevent her, but no doubt those Democraps will meet Arkancide and Hitlery will run, take over the DNC again and it will be Trump/Hitlery round 2 and she hire more actresses to accuse him of sexual assault.
An independent candidacy? Against an incumbent POTUS and a Dem challenger? I doubt it.
I think it's more likely she runs for her own former Senate seat in NY, and settles for a Kennedy-esque "lion of the Senate" role in history.

There is a groundswell for Hillary to run again.
Her supporters and hangers-on are continually telling her that she was cheated out of the presidency in both 2008
and 2016. She is saying the same thing about 2016 in her book tour. I think she is going to run again. It part of the deal she made with Bill Clinton many years ago.
