Bridgeport cops tangle over letter of the law

BRIDGEPORT — Six letters emblazoned on the back of a jacket could be a matter of life and death for the men and women who safeguard Connecticut’s largest city. That is how Sgt. Chris Robinson feels about having “POLICE” printed on outerwear worn by Bridgeport’s Finest. Robinson was suspended with pay last week for publicly criticizing Police Chief Armando “A.J.” Perez’s Nov. 13 memorandum forbidding cops from advertising their profession on their clothing. “We are the police, are we not? Yet then why are we now attempting to disguise or even go to such measures and means to hide it now?” wrote Robinson in a email rebuttal circulated throughout the department. His email, along with Perez’s order, were obtained by Hearst Connecticut Media. “Members of Service (officers) are reminded that any wearing of ‘POLICE’ on department uniforms other than road job outerwear is prohibited,” Perez had written. “Supervisors will be held accountable for failing to enforce and abide by this directive.” “This order compromises everyone’s safety!!!!” Robinson said in his email. “It is an order that can get an officer hurt or killed!”

Liberalism has reached a point of collective insanity.

The chief noted that officers are “readily identifiable” by their uniforms, badges, name tags, hats, and police patches.

excuse me? the only cops i've ever seen wearing POLICE on their outer ware are detectives and undercover simply because they DON'T have a uniform/hat/patch/etc readily viable to other cops so they don't get shot!

Evidently, in this case, “you can take the Cuban out of Cuba, but you can’t take Cuba out of the Cuban!”

You do realize that, traditionally, Cuban Americans tend to be staunchly conservative, pro American and anti communist?

From the front, in daylight conditions, yes that's true.

The "POLICE" patch is in big reflective letters on the BACK of the jacket, for situations where it might be nice for people to recognize that he's a cop in dim light from a distance.

It's amazing to me that about 20 minutes (in light traffic) from Bridgeport are several of the wealthiest residential suburbs on earth.Whenever I drive through Bridgeport heading toward NYC on I-95 that very thought occurs to me.

I didn’t know you were from over there. I was too. Left years ago. My wife is a Bridgeport native.

That place is the worst. Remember the cop, who only a few years ago, was playing with a friend’s pistol in the middle of daylight, seated in a Dunkin Donuts - When he squeezed the trigger and fired a round through the window ?

Yeah. ZERO PUNISHMENT.

Is that city going crazy? I know Tampa is run by a Democrat, but he is light years better than the moron in Bridgeport.
