Limiting president’s ability to launch an atomic first strike is appealing, but would be a bad idea

>>Alarmed by President Donald Trump’s bellicose statements and impulsive governing style, two congressional Democrats introduced legislation that would prohibit the president — any president — from launching a nuclear first strike without a declaration of war by Congress explicitly endorsing such an attack.

Pussyobama took a nuclear RESPONSE to a nuclear attack off the table during his presidency.

He sought to take our arsenal down to ZERO and toured the Russians through our missile facilities.

He was a traitor to this nation.

If President Harry S Truman had taken it to Congressional vote before striking Japan, they would’ve been alerted to the impending strike and done their damnedest to prevent those planes from coming ashore.

This would ENCOURAGE a first strike attack ON the USA and therefore increase the likelihood of nuclear war.

Hope the first missile hits Markey and Leiu right in there heads!

Hopefully, Hillary sees the burning flash, feels her atoms disintegrating, and then sees she’s in a cavern of fire and smoke with a red dude with horns and holding a pitchfork smiling at her!

The Founders were great men, but they could not have envisioned a 24/7 news cycle, the Internet, cell phones and social media.

The news would be out there immediately, and we might be hit proactively.

In the “days of yore,” :), there was time for debate in Congress if the U.S. were threatened. Now, not so much.

I am sure President Trump is quietly conferring with advisors, the military, and probably some those in the House and Senate who he trusts not to spill the beans, should it come to that nightmare scenario.

Hillary would sleep right through a nuke attack on the US if it happened after Tiddly time.

Wait, I thought she was the one who was prepared for the 3:00 AM phone call? ;)

Unconstitutional. The president is clearly defined as CinC and head of the armed forces. The only power congress has is the purse strings. They cannot limit his control of the military other than war power act and declaration of war.

Yes - but the CINC has broad authority to fill the gap while the Congress makes up its mind....

It’s almost funny that two congressional Democrats would mention the Constitution.

All they care about is nukes? They ring hollow all things considered. The president has full authority to act while Congress stays indecisive.

If it ever got to the point where any POTUS was considering a launch there is a good chance that the swamp had been or was about to be vaporized. Then who would authorize the launch

CinC STRATCOM
