The U.S. Senate did not want to seat Senator Reed Smoot from Utah because he had allegedly not formally renounced polygamy even though he had never practiced it. The guy leading the charge was a famous philander.
After months of hearings and debates, he was voted in. One senate colleague stated that "If we can seat a monogamist which doesn't monog, there is no reason we can't seat a polygamist which doesn't polyg."

The “ethics” committees need to be investigated for their decades of covering-up ethics violations. A bigger kabuki theater does not exist.

After listening to him on Hannity, I'm not so sure. He did not seem to "think on his feet" very well and struggled with pretty softball questions. The Senate will bring much tougher questions and be outright hostile. Hopefully he was just having a bad day and will be able to acquit himself far better in the senate.
McConnell really doesn’t want to go down that road.
