Buck Sexton: If police can execute an innocent man on video, none of us are safe
The Hill ^

The Shaver case is well beyond politics. There is nothing conservative, liberal or constitutional about an agent of the state killing an American without just cause. It is deeply wrong regardless of party or ideology. Bernie Sanders voters and the most ardent Trump supporters all should be united in outrage over the death of Daniel Shaver.

Maricopa County District Attorney Bill Montgomery got it right by charging Brailsford with second degree murder. The jury got it very wrong. Shaver should be alive, and his death must be taken as a call to action. Police departments should establish that a suspect always has the ability to show hands and lie down on the ground for arrest. Complicated law enforcement commands that require mobility and balance — under threat of execution — cannot be an acceptable standard.

When good faith efforts to respond to police commands can be met with a hail of bullets, we are all in jeopardy, and the work of all law enforcement officers becomes more difficult and dangerous.

Its like the cops get away with one thing one year and then do something even more unimaginable the next.

did the jury see the video ? it was made to sound that the video wasn’t released until after the jury verdict.

If you want a glimpse of America’s progressive-left future, study Brazil.

I almost always side with the cops in these shootings. But with this one, IMHO, there is ZERO “feared for his life” element with the cop. This was an execution carried out by the cop as soon as he felt he could get away with it. I’d like to be on the jury that hears any future civil suits against this evil cop.

The only other case I can recall where I saw the cop had no justification for a shooting was one (I believe it may have been in North Carolina) where the cop shot the guy in the back as he ran away unarmed.

NO one can convince me after watching the video that this wasn’t cold blooded murder. The cop should be in prison

I posted this yesterday but I think it is a life changing moment for me.

When ordered by a LEO down on my Knees, I will comply.
Extend my arms at a 90 degree angle from my body.

There I will be. No more orders. Come cuff me LEO.

No “Simon Says Games” for me.

The cop holding the rifle reminded ma a lot of the cop who picks someone to tailgate until the followed person gets jittery and commits an error for which he will get a very expensive ticket or perhaps get pulled out of his car and thrown to the ground.Little bit different situation. horribly different results but same attitude.

[[ none of us are safe]]

Sure you are bucky- just listen to the police- follow instructions and don’t engage i inactions that can and will be interpreted as aggressive or dangerous such as reaching for a gun

There w2as NOTHING complicated about “Do NOT reach your hands in any direction or towards the small of tyour back or behind you- if you do this WILL BE SEEN as a threat and we WILL deal with you in an equally agressive manner-” ( or soemthign to that effect)

Seemed pretty clear to me-

HOWEVER, having said that- the cop probably should have said “Keep your hands in the air at all times and knee walk towards me like you wife just did- and as long as you do NOT drop your hands for ANY reason- you will come out of this alive and well”

That cop was convicted as this one should have been.

I saw the video. The cop was a sociopath wanting to kill someone. Looks like he got his way.

In a similar Arizona case the couple was able to comply with the amped up deputies and survive.

They won the lawsuit but caution to be careful and don't give them any reason to shoot you.

The adrenaline overload was so high in one the deputies with an assault rifle that we could see the visible shaking of his assault weapon. (This guy was so wound up we were afraid to even stumble as we were led away, we felt that anything no matter how small would cause him to shoot us).

I think this cop would have shot you for noncompliance with orders. The epitome is the Costco parking lot killing where two cops gave conflicting orders and the order that was obeyed got the fellow killed by the other cop. The police involved all got paid vacations and eventually the shooter got some sort of medal.

That is a good question. I would think the prosecuting attorney would have demanded it be shown.

The one shocker is that the cop who did the shooting on the video was NOT the cop issuing the commands to the victim. That cop was a more senior officer. In my opinion, he should have been brought up on charges as well. His spoken commands were nonsense. It was as if he wanted the victim to be shot for noncompliance with his orders. According to the news article, he “retired” shortly thereafter and moved to The Philippines.

That cop should be hung in the public square, and the higher up should be replaced now.

There is no excuse for that. Zero.

“There I will be. “

Exactly. Imagine being told to put your hands up. How long can you hold them up? Get tired, lower them, forget about it.

Start on the ground.
