But didn’t the “experts” say this would be impossible?

Do they adjust those numbers based on the date of Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving was on the second earliest possible date this year, so there was a full week of November that fell in the traditional post-Thanksgiving Christmas shopping season.

Went with my mom to Kohls the other day. They were packed.
Same day went by Kroger, very busy as well.
Most retailers seemed to be doing a brisk business.

Yeah, what could possibly have happened in the previous month to cause this? We may never know.

Nice try, but these days it’s not like nobody shops until the day after thanksgiving. Sales begin all month long, and the actual date of thankgsiving has very little effect.

After 8 years of Obamanomics and 1.8% growth, our economy should be growing at 7 to 10% to actually recover. What's holding us back?

1) Illegal aliens. About 30-35 million of them, suppressing wages and straining the social welfare net. If there were about 1-2 million illegals in the country, most of us would not notice them.

2) Obamacare and the ripple effect from that disaster. People actually do react to legislation, especially tax legislation, that affects business behavior, and the cost and taxes related to Obamacare is messing with our economic growth.

3) John McCain. I don't feel the need to expand on that, since so many Freepers can wax much more eloquently on the subject. Summary; when that obstacle is gone, America can be back on the road to real recovery.

Not surprising as per the job report more people have gone back to work over the last 9 months since President Trump took over.

While I have personally cut back, SS just goes so far. And most of my shopping was done on Amazon. Kroger’s gave 4 times the gas points for gift cards, and that is how I shop, malls are a nightmare sound wise, little handicapped parking, and with 7 grands 6 G. Grands wide range in ages it’s easier to let them or their parents shop for what they want.

Besides the Wolf Chase Mall in Memphis, TN is high crime, and they have a NO GUN policy. Besides all that happy holiday, season greetings crap.

Actually AC’s point is a good one. The timing of Thanksgiving makes a significant difference.

A greater part of the charging economy at this point is businesses who expect significant tax cuts coming than it is individuals who really only expect that if they have a slew of kids going to private school.

The corporate cuts will indeed to some degree trickle down, the impact will be less on the consumer side and delayed.

I think my family unit is practically tripling our spending this year.

We all had very successful years and a lot of things needed replaced after ”let’s get one more year out of it”.

We also paid off every vehicle loan 2-4 years early.

Like I said, good year and much to me thankful for.

This is the year the kids will always remember.
