Mohamed Qoomaall forged an immigration stamp on his British passport and had pension credit payments sent to him for two-and-a-half years as a friend enjoyed rent-free living in his council-funded home.

A Somalian refugee who pocketed nearly £39,000 in benefits after secretly returning to his homeland because he missed the sunshine has been jailed for 15 months.

Benefits cheat Mohamed Qoomaall had claimed asylum in the UK claiming he was in danger in his homeland, but moved back to the Horn of Africa in 2013.

The 72-year-old had pension credit payments sent to him for two-and-a-half years as a friend enjoyed rent-free living in his council-funded home.

The court heard Qoomaal wanted to live in a warmer climate for health benefits and only returned to the UK when he heard he was wanted for questioning.

A friend continued to live in the pensioner's council-funded flat in north-west London. When quizzed Qoomaal tried to lie his way out of trouble, but finally confessed when his legal representative informed him the evidence was overwhelming.

I was thinking of retiring in Somalia. I heard great things about it.

This story will be seen by US Millennials as yet more proof that America needs Euro-style Socialism instead of Capitalism. Why live in your parents’ basement when you can have government-provided everything?

Now will the U.K. reverse their granting of asylum to him? Unfortunately, I bet not.

At least he went back to where he belonged. If only they all did this you could pay them £39,000 each and still save taxpayer’s money if they f’ed off.
