NBC nightly news led with the Atlanta Airport story. They must have used bright lights as they described places that were dark while showing places that were quite light. It seemed a strange way to get the idea across of what was happening to the passengers.

I hope the airport authorities, local electricians, etc. fix the problem soon.

This is the press release from Georgia Power a few minutes ago. It seems there is/was an extensive underground fire.

Some sort of electric breaker fire shut it all down.

I had considered going to SC to my sister for the eclipse but the weather forecast was not that good and I figured the traffic would be bad coming back.

It was that bad?

Busy travel week. My mom just called to tell me about it and says they are reporting that it is nothing suspicious. Lol...little did she realize one of her grandchildren was in the midst of it.

I don’t know. Looks kind of normal to me.

I think there should be a hot spot in hell for parking lot designers.

Before this horror my driving rule was to drive if the distance was anywhere under 1,000 miles. I’m changing it to anywhere in the US. With my new 2018 Navigator coming in a month or two that won’t be too bad a sacrifice.

IF you can get your luggage off of the airplane to the gates to walk to the underground tunnels.

No power = no vendors, no doors, no lights in the bathrooms, no toilets, no water, no paper towels (electric dispensers), no food. No drinks. No luggage. And its all “city of Atlanta.

I’ve got a couple of machinists and welders sitting on airplanes even now.

Yup, when a major breaker (likely in a substation) fails, it can’t operate/open when hit with very high fault current, then other nearby parts of the grid get hit with high fault current, can be damaged, etc.

The question right now: did the breaker fail and catch on fire spontaneously, or did very high fault current from another problem slam the breaker beyond it’s fault current rating, causing it to catch on fire.

You have a point there. They should have to permanently park in the lowest level of the underground hell garage, where the temps are always above the boiling level.

Yes, I have lost track of traffic jams. We were also driving back in October. Interstate was shut down in 2 places!! Nashville is a bear to drive thru!
There was a fatal accident south of Nashville and then an overturned tanker near Cullman. I almost said, next time I fly. I have since changed my mind and back up for the drive. I detest flying.

In NW Atlanta county, no power problems up here. Couple of machinists and welders coming back from a job site that are locked into airplanes down there.

I have a fairly new vehicle myself and it’s a treat to drive.

LOTS of stuff comes standard now that a few years ago would have cost a fortune.

Yes, and btw, daughter and co-worker found an Uber driver and are now on their way back. It saved someone from having to drive 5 hours to go back and forth to get them, and then getting stuck in the traffic once they got to the airport.

I figure they should be forced to drive around a parking lot some other parking lot designer designed, looking for a way out.

Forever.

Unfortunately for me, almost all my business trips are to Seattle, Los Angeles, or Boston. Too far to drive. I live as close to Auburn as Montgomery, so always fly out of Hartsfield. It would positively stink to be there today!!!

I’m in dowtown Atlanta. No outages here, only at the airport.

I was mailing Christmas cards at the main post office near the airport today around noon. Everything was normal, watched one plane after another depart. An hour later everything stopped.

Scratch that last post....The Uber driver refused to take them to Alabama....

Back to the original plan. Waiting on someone from here to drive there.
